Fox News Founder Roger Ailes Dies Aged 77

Fox

Roger Ailes, the highly influential and controversial founder of Fox News who was last year forced out of the network amid a sexual harassment scandal, has died at the age of 77.

The media mogul also served as an adviser to Republican presidents Richard Nixon and Ronald Reagan and, after his exit from Fox News, the election campaign of presidential candidate Donald Trump. He joined Fox in 1996 and helped build it into a massively influential and profitable section of Rupert Murdoch’s 21st Century Fox.

“I am profoundly sad and heartbroken to report that my husband, Roger Ailes, passed away this morning,” his wife Elizabeth Ailes said in a statement published on the Drudge Report on Thursday (May 18th).

Fox Buys Rights For "Action-Adventure" Stan Lee Biopic

Stan Lee Fox

Marvel comic-book creator Stan Lee is to have a movie made based on his life, after it emerged that 20th Century Fox had purchased his “life rights” earlier this week.

The Hollywood Reporter claimed in an article on Wednesday (September 14th) that Fox wasn’t going to make a straight-up biopic about the 93 year old animator and editor’s life, but would make an “action-adventure” flick set in the 1970s, with Lee himself conceived as a hero in the vein of “Roger Moore’s 007”.

Producers Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey, already attached, have promised that the project would be a “period action-adventure movie… in the tone of Kingsman: The Secret Service,” according the report.

Fox's 'I Wanna Marry Harry', A Royal Fake Wants A Date, But Is This The Lowest Of The Low?

Fox

Poor Prince Harry, he really must be having a hard time getting over his breakup from Cressida Bonas because he’s just turned up on an American dating show entitled, ‘I Wanna Marry Harry’. Hang on, Britain’s fourth in line to the throne, pimping himself out on a reality show? Sounds completely preposterous doesn't it? Well if only the 12 American girls we met on Fox’s ‘I Wanna Marry Harry’ last night thought the same way.

Prince HarryThe REAL Prince Harry

‘I Wanna Marry Harry’ is a reality dating show made by Fox, where 12 American girls compete for the heart of Matthew Hicks, a red haired English gentleman who kind of, slightly, I guess maybe if you squint, but really not so much, resembles Prince Harry. He never says he is Prince Harry, of course, because well, he isn’t. But he never really says he’s not, leading the girls to put two and two together, get five and think they’re competing for a date with a real Prince.

Fans of HBO’s True Detective will want to pay attention, as the show’s director, Cary Fukunaga – who was in charge for all eight episodes of the Louisiana drama – is at the centre of a pitch for a feature that Fox has bought pre-emptively for “mid-six figures,” Deadline report.

Fukunaga will direct the project as well as produce alongside Anonymous Content’s Michael Sugar - Fox’s Kira Goldberg and Emma Watts are point on the project, too. Here’s what we know: it’s untitled, set in a contemporary wartime context and is written by Nicole Riegel, who, like Fukunaga, emerged from the Sundance Labs program. That, alongside the fact that Fox went ahead and bought it quicksmart, is all we know.

Is Offensive 'Dads' The Worst Reviewed Show Of The Year?

Seth Green Giovanni Ribisi Seth Macfarlane Fox

There was plenty of hope for Dads. Actually, there wasn't really. But, well...we don't know why we said that. No, there just wasn't.

After Seth Macfarlane's Oscars disaster, nobody was particularly anticipating the writer's new live-action comedy with any gusto, especially with Seth Green involved.

The premise is decent. It follow the lives of video game company founders Eli and Warner (Seth Green and Giovanni Ribisi) whose lives are turned upside down when - you guessed it - their fathers (Peter Riegert, Martin Mull) move in.

Police Doubted Cory Monteith's Substance Abuse, Autopsy Says Otherwise

Cory Monteith Lea Michele Fox Glee

Cory Monteith, the Canadian actor best known for playing Finn Hudson on Fox's hit television show Glee, died from a heroin and alcohol overdose, according to a coroner's report. Initially, police in Vancouver said it was unlikely that the tragic death was the result of substance abuse, though the evidence suggests otherwise.

The British Columbia Coroner's Service confirmed the actor's cause of death late on Tuesday (July 16, 2013) after conducting an autopsy and toxicology test. A statement said: "There is no evidence at this time to suggest Monteith's death was anything other than a most tragic accident."

An article by entertainment gossip site TMZ.com this week suggested Monteith - who dated Glee co-star Lea Michele - lived a 'double life' between Los Angeles and Vancouver. Sources tell the site that Cory "became a drug addict with a serious drinking problem" when he returned to his native Canada, hanging "out with many of the friends who helped fuel his addiction."

Box Office Preview: Woefully Reviewed 'After Earth' Will Struggle For No.1

Will Smith Jaden Smith Sony Fox Jj Abrams

The Will and Jaden Smith starring After Earth - which may well be M. Night Shymalan's worst ever movie - should pull in between $35-40 million at the box-office this weekend, though it won't be enough to secure the top spot in its debut week, says Andrew Stewart at Variety.

Sony entrusted over $100 million in Shymalan and The Smiths to make the sci-fi action movie, though reviews have been woeful with one critic opining on whether it may be the worst film ever made. Though a $40 million haul would leave studio executives pretty pleased, failing to secure the top spot will be concerning. That should go to Universal's fabulous 'Fast and Furious 6' with takings of around $50 million. The latest movie in the action franchise is among the best reviewed mainstream movies of the year and should bring its 10-day total to a quite miraculous $175 million.

Jack's Back! America's Favorite Show '24' Confirmed For New Series

Kiefer Sutherland Fox

As expected, Fox Broadcasting Company has announced the return of Jack Bauer and 24 for a brand new series. The high-octane saga starring Kieifer Sutherland as a heroic agent will once again follow the pulse-pounding fast-paced format with split screens and storylines representing one hour of real-life time. The new series is titled '24: Live Another Day'.

"It's great to have Jack back. '24' redefined the drama genre, and as we reimagine the television miniseries, this iconic show will again break new ground for the network," said Fox chairman Kevin Reilly. "The series remains a global sensation, and everyone at Fox is thrilled to be back at work with Kiefer, Howard and the incredibly creative '24' team." The news series once again sees Sutherland team with show-runner Howard Gordon, who Fox say pitched the idea of a new series. "When Howard came to us saying he had an idea for a new chapter of '24,' he quite simply had us at 'hello,'" said 20th Century Fox Television Chairmen Gary Newman and Dana Walden. "'24' is a signature series for this studio, beloved by critics and audiences worldwide. Howard's idea to revive the franchise as an event series couldn't be timelier, and with the brilliant Kiefer Sutherland on board to reprise his iconic role, we can't wait to get started." It does make you wonder whether Fox's cancellation of Sutherland's 'Touch' had anything to do with the decision? "Ok Keifer, we're getting rid of Touch.but we've got something else."

Nevertheless, the television big-wigs have certainly been rolled out for this announcement. Imagine Television Chairman Brian Graze said, "I'm both excited and proud that Howard, Kiefer, and I, along with ours partners at 20th and Fox, have this new opportunity to give '24' fans what they've been asking for - more Jack Bauer. It's been my experience that people love Jack Bauer because he's a guy who cuts through the red tape and gets the hardest things done. I am certain '24: Live Another Day' will again have a huge impact on our culture."

Networks To Announce Fall Line-Ups, Will 'CSI:NY,' 'Touch' And 'Go On' Survive?

Kiefer Sutherland Matthew Perry CBS NBC ABC Fox

Crime drama CSI NY, Matthew Perry's 'Go On' and Fox's 'Touch,' starring Kiefer Sutherland are amongst the television shows in danger of being cancelled when the networks announce their fall line-ups in the coming weeks. The clock is very much ticking, and it's getting louder with every passing second.

It's a familiar Hollywood plot, with actors, producers, writers and directors waiting nervously to hear whether their shows have made it onto the fall line-ups. If the ratings are not there, the show disappears. Simple. NBC unveils its plans on Sunday May 12, while Fox announce on Monday, ABC Tuesday and CBS on Wednesday. CW fans have to wait until Thursday for that announcement.

As reported by the Plain Dealer, we already know that Animal Practice, Made in Jersey, Last Resort and The Mob Doctor are getting in, though there are several more high profile shows that are in danger of being handed a pink slip. They include the CBS crime dramas CSI:NY and Criminal Minds. Ratings suggest the latter might survive, but CSI looks to be a goner. A year ago, it was suggested that NY might get cancelled and CSI: Miami could survive though the reverse happened.

Guys And Dolls Remake: Joseph Gordon-Levitt And Channing Tatum In Talks

Joseph Gordon-Levitt Channing Tatum Frank Sinatra Marlon Brando Fox

20th Century Fox has landed the movie rights to Guys and Dolls, the classic movie starring Frank Sinatra and Marlon Brando itself based on a successful musical, and will start the process of a remake potentially starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Channing Tatum, according to Deadline.com. A writer and director is yet to be announced, though Fox are keen to pin down its lead stars first.

The remake of the movie is big news in Hollywood, especially among acting circles, where the lead roles are considered the most sought after in the business. A few years it, Harvey Weinstein was close to getting the rights to the movie, with Chicago producers Craig Zadan and Neil Moron producing. Russell Crowe, Hugh Jackman and even Vin Diesel tossed their hats into the ring for the movie, though the widow of songwriter Frank Loesser didn't find the deal to her liking and declined to sign over the rights.

Now, she appears pretty happy for Fox to take on the story about rogue gamblers and gangsters in the 1920s and 1930s. Nathan Sinatra (Sinatra's role) has a town full of captive gamblers and wants to set up a floating crap game but requires the funds to do it. He bets his friend Sky Masterson (Brando) that he can't get Sarah Brown to go with him to Havana. The role of the love interest will no doubt be the subject of a competitive casting process featuring many of Hollywood's top actresses.

Fox Cuts Ties To Dick Morris After He Made False Predictions

Fox Barack Obama

He was once one of the network's chief political commentators, but now, as Fox Cuts Ties to Dick Morris, he'll have to find pastures new. Morris was mistaken in his staunch predictions that Mitt Romney would win last year's election by a landslide, whereas Barack Obama won what became a very tight race.

According to the Examiner, Morris also came under criticism for accepting payment for advertising on his website from candidates that he discussed for his job.

Morris has barely been seen on the FoxNews channel since Obama's win, which he reasons was down to his backing of Romney. "The key reason for my bum prediction is that I mistakenly believed that the 2008 surge in black, Latino, and young voter turnout would recede in 2012 to normal levels," he said. We're unsure where Morris may have gathered the kind of evidential reasoning that he surely must have had behind such a bizarre opinion.
