Frank Grillo is being lined up to star in 'Purge 3'.

The 50-year-old actor assumed the leading role in the 2014 movie 'The Purge: Anarchy' and is currently locked in final negotiations to once again star in the eagerly-awaited sequel in the horror franchise, Variety reports.

Writer and director James DeMonaco is set to helm the movie, having done so on both of the previous films in the series.

The original 'Purge' movie saw Hollywood star Ethan Hawke assume the central role and the low-budget production performed above expectations at the box office, despite costing just $3 million to make.

Ethan took home a healthy slice of the profits after negotiating a contract that allowed him to pocket a percentage of what 'Purge' made at the box office.

And in a previous interview, Ethan recalled the no-thrills approach to making the original movie.

He said: ''There were no perks.

''No trailer, no driver, no BS, just a great role, a great director. Hell, on The Purge, I slept on his couch the whole shoot.''

The latest instalment in the 'Purge' franchise is set to debut in July 2016.
