Garbage are working on a new album, their first since 2005's 'Bleed Like Me'.
Garbage are working on a new album.
The 'Stupid Girl' group - fronted by flame haired singer Shirley Manson - had a string of hits in the 90s before releasing their last album, 'Bleed Like Me' in 2005 and going on hiatus.
Shirley has, however, said the band have started work on a new album and that she'd like to go back on tour with the group in 2011.
She told students in Scotland: "I'm working on a record right now with the band.
"We've recorded quite a lot but it's difficult to quantify.
"It's the first one in a long time. I took about five years off. I'd like to do some touring next year. We're just winging it right now."
Shirley, 44, didn't elaborate on what direction the band - which also includes Butch Vig, Steve Marker and Duke Erikson - are heading in musically, but they have previously moved between rock, pop and a dance influenced sound.
Producer and drummer Butch is presently working with Foo Fighters singer Dave Grohl on his band's new record.
In her time away from Garbage Shirley recorded a solo album with Lily Allen producer Greg Kurstin, but it was never released after a dispute with her record label. She also tried acting and appeared in US TV series 'Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles'.
