George Clooney

George Clooney has been left reeling in fury in a spat with The Daily Mail. The actor admonished the British tabloid for printing what he described as a "lie" regarding his relations with his fiancée Amal Alamuddin's mother, his future mother-in-law.

The Mail alleged that Clooney's fiancée's mother, Baria, had told "half of Beirut" that she was opposed the forthcoming wedding on religious grounds because she is a member of Lebanon's Islamic Druze community.

Clooney lashed out at the Mail, denouncing the newspaper for fabricating a story that he ruled to be "false" and "irresponsible." The incensed 53 year-old wrote "None of the story is factually true. Amal's mother is not Druze. She has not been to Beirut since Amal and I have been dating, and she is in no way against the marriage."

Joel and Ethan Coen like nothing more than getting their old friends together for a project, which is exactly what’s happening with ‘Hail, Caeser!’ – their new film, announced today by Universal Pictures.

The film, a comedy, which we can only imagine will be of the dark persuasion given the Coen’s penchant for black humour, centers on a 1950s-era Hollywood “fixer” named Eddie Mannix, according to Deadline.

'Gravity' Wins Trailer Of The Year At The Golden Trailer Awards

Gravity has won a Golden Trailer award for the Trailer of the Year. The sci-fi film was voted the best trailer out a wide variety of films nominated for the various Golden Trailer awards. Gravity's trailer also won the award for Best Thriller Trailer.

Gravity
Gravity won the Golden Trailer award for Trailer of the Year.

The trailer, entitled Detached, depicts Sandra Bullock and George floating through space, before Bullock crucially loses hold of a life line whilst on a mission outside the space station. The trailer, much like the film, appears to be wonderfully simplistic with the action taking place entirely in space. However, it's certainly a breath-taking trailer with the drama evidently playing out between Sandra Bullock's and George Clooney's characters.

Don’t get us wrong, she’s a very striking looking woman, but Clooney’s track record suggested that he was an incurable modelizer (for those who haven’t seen the early episodes of Sex and the City, a modelizer is a man who strictly dates models). Sure, he’s thrown a few actresses (and one cocktail waitress) in there as well, but he’s rarely veered away from the entertainment industry when picking his lady friends.  Until now, and we're so pleased about it!

George Clooney

Back in 2000 when ‘300’ was in development, there was another Spartan movie that looked set for the big screen: ’Gates of Fire’ which was spearheaded by none other than George Clooney. However 14 years later it looks as if ‘Gates of Fire’ can go down in history as the greatest movie never made.

He switched to novels in 1995 with ‘ The Legend of Bagger Vance’, which became a movie with Will Smith, but in 1998 he released the historical fiction novel, ‘Gates of Fire’.

"The Lego Movie" Still Blocking All Competition At The Box Office

George Clooney Kevin Hart

The Lego Movie is still going strong, after three straight weekends at the top of the box office charts. Over the three-day period, the movie made $31,5 million, leaving the competition far behind. New releases 3 Days to Kill and Pompeii came in at Nos. 2 and 3 with $12.3 million and a disappointing $10 million, respectively. Compared to Lego, the numbers seem very low, but they’re fairly typical of the slow February box office.

People are still paying to see The Lego Movie, not so much anything else.

Robocop and The Monuments Men both saw significant drops this weekend, taking fourth and fifth place in the weekend charts. RoboCop made just $9.4 million, while the George Clooney-directed historical flick made just over $8 million on its third outing – still not a bad record for a February release.

Damon on the other hand, has expressed his disillusionment with the president and his policies before. Most recently, Damon told BET last year that Obama "broke up with him," and he expressed concerns about U.S. drone operations under Obama and revelations by former National Security Agency contractor Edward Snowden about the agency's spying programs. To that valid criticism, Obama responded with some of his own: "Matt Damon said he was disappointed in my performance. Well, Matt, I just saw The Adjustment Bureau, so right back atcha, buddy!"

The Monuments Men Review

Good

For an amazing true story performed by such a strong A-list cast, this is an oddly uninvolving film. Fragmented and uneven, it shifts from comedy to drama to romance to adventure, never letting us get the feel of any sequence. In other words, the episodic structure would have been much more suitable to a longer-format TV series. Even so, this is a fascinating chapter of history that we haven't heard nearly enough about. And the actors are good enough to keep us entertained.

It takes place as the tide begins to turn during World War II, and art historian Frank (Clooney) recruits a team of experts to protect Europe's most important paintings, sculptures and monuments from both Allied bombing and Nazi plundering. He recruits a handful of Americans (Damon, Murray, Goodman and Balaban) to work with a Brit (Bonneville) and a Frenchman (Dujardin), and as they spread out around the continent, they discover that the real problem is that Hitler is stealing art on a massive scale and hiding it somewhere. Working with a resistance-minded French museum curator (Blanchett), they are able to find where some 5 million stolen pieces are stashed.

The central theme is whether art is worth risking your life to save. And if Clooney and Heslov had allowed this idea to seep through the pores of the script, it might have carried a real wallop. But they announce it over and over again, never giving us a chance to think about it ourselves. Everything about the movie is just as unsubtle, with each sequence played for laughs, thrills, drama or romance, as required. Which means that nothing emerges as organic for these simplistically defined characters, who are a composite of some 350 Monuments Men and Women who did a job no one thought was possible. Even so, it's fun to watch these actors play with the material, stirring in snappy details here and there and of course playing on their strong chemistry.

Why 'The Monuments Men' Will Win Valentines Weekend UK Box Office

George Clooney John Goodman Cate Blanchett

There are 474 films coming out on Valentines Day, all with the specific view of pulling couples in to sit down in silence for two hours while they’re force-fed a story. How will The Monuments Men pull away from the pack to win the weekend? Well let me tell you.

Monuments MenGreat premise, poor execution - The Monuments Men

It’s a very simple formula. People who go to the cinema on Valentines Day don’t actually know anything about movies. If they knew about movies – or anything about life in general – they’d stay in on Valentines Day, eat pizza and watch episodes of Seinfeld. It’s the most comforting thing you can do.

Outlandish Theory: Did Clooney Delay 'Monuments Men' To Avoid Oscars Embarrassment?

George Clooney Bill Murray John Goodman

There was a period - late October, early November - when bookmakers were terrified of George Clooney's The Monuments Men, and for good reason. The heavily financed historical-drama had a superb story to work from, it had a script from Clooney and Grant Heslov and a supporting cast that included Matt Damon, Bill Murray, John Goodman, Cate Blanchett, Jean Dujardin and Hugh Bonneville. It was the favorite to win Best Picture at the Oscars with very little value to be had.

Clooney eventually pulled the plug on the movie's Oscar-bait release date, owing to concerns about the special effects, however, rumors from the production suggested the director was struggling with the movie's tone and the trailers certainly didn't give any clues as to whether this was a serious historical drama, a comedy, or something else.

'The Monuments Men' Is FINALLY Here. But Is It Any Good?

George Clooney Matt Damon Bill Murray Cate Blanchett

Based on the book by Robert M. Edsel,The Monuments Men centres on an Allied group named the 'Monuments, Fine Arts, and Archives Program', tasked with saving pieces of art and other culturally important items before their destruction by Hitler during World War II. Directed by George Clooney, it marks the actor's fifth directorial endeavour. Aside from Clooney, Mouments Men boasts an impressive cast including Matt Damon, Bill Murray, Hugh Bonneville and Cate Blanchett.

Critics have so far been divided on this unusual wartime drama. Kam Williams writing for Baret Newswire called it “a history lesson about an obscure chapter of World War II successfully turned into entertaining Hollywood fare.” Whilst Variety’s Scott Foundas enjoyed the subject he felt Clooney’s adaptation did not do it justice, saying “Clooney has transformed a fascinating true-life tale into an exceedingly dull and dreary caper pic cum art-appreciation seminar - a museum-piece movie about museum people.”

Indeed the exact subject matter of The Monuments Men means it just doesn't have the amount of action you’d expect from a wartime drama, “Escapism junkies may feel betrayed,” wrote Rolling Stone’s Peter Travers before adding “Clooney has crafted a movie abort about aspiration, about culture at risk, about things worth fighting for. However Todd McCarthy writing for the Hollywood Reporter said,  “Too much of the time, The Monuments Men falls into a compromised middle zone, not urgent and only mildly amusing.”

August: Osage County Review

Extraordinary

Tracy Letts adapts his own prize-winning play into a blistering depiction of one of cinema's most dysfunctional families ever. It's still rather theatrical, throwing a mob of top actors into a room for what feels like a fight to the death, but it's so well written and so beautifully observed by the actors that we can't look away. And of course Meryl Streep walks off with the show.

Everything kicks off when Beverly Weston (Shepard) goes missing, leaving his ruthlessly straight-talking, pill-popping wife Violet (Streep) to assemble the family in their rambling Oklahoma home. They have three equally feisty daughters: Barbara (Roberts) is a tightly wound bundle of anger with an estranged husband (McGregor) and surly teen daughter (Breslin) in tow; Karen (Lewis) is a free-spirited floater with yet another random boyfriend (Mulroney); and Ivy (Nicholson) is fed up with being the dutiful daughter who stayed close to home. Also on hand is Violet's sister Mattie Fae (Martindale), whose husband (Cooper) is the family patriarch now that Beverly is gone, which means their son (Cumberbatch) feels even more useless than normal.

What plot there is centres on skeletons rattling out of closets and relationships imploding spectacularly. The film is a series of brutally intense encounters between people who probably still love each other in vaguely undefined ways and express it through bitter bursts of witty cruelty. Streep has the meatiest role as the imperious Violet, who knows a lot more than she's letting on. And her chief rival is Barbara, played with unnerving intensity by Roberts. The only person we even remotely like is Mattie Fae, and the always-superb Martindale finds all kinds of layers in the character.

We normally look at the precursory awards in the lead up to the Oscars as a bellwether for Academy predictions, but this year’s gongs have gone to a varied set of recipients, giving us no indication as to which direction the golden statuettes will be heading come March 2014.

And it appears as though The Los Angeles Film Critics Association are just as muddled with their hypothesis - they couldn’t split the difference between Alfonso Cuaron’s Gravity and Spike Jonez’s latest effort, Her. The first is an epic journey through space with incredible visuals, while the second is a futuristic love story starring Joaquin Phoenix and Scarlett Johansson, but they both received the top prize from the LAFCA last night (Sunday 9, December).

Henry Cavill has topped the latest poll by Glamour magazine to determine the '100 Sexiest Men Alive.' The Twilight-star has long been a favourite for the magazine when compiling their yearly list of sexiest men, but this year the spandex-wearing DC superhero Cavill proved too dashing to ignore, as he leaped to the top spot. Cavill was chosen as the sexiest man alive by the magazine on the back of his successful turn as Superman in the blockbuster Man of Steel, with his chiselled abs and facial features probably going some way towards securing his spot at the top of the poll too.

George Clooney and Sandra Bullock are both single, both similar ages and have been working together recently in Gravity. The long-time friends are have been consistently rumored to be romantically involved, but they don’t exactly help themselves by constantly using the media as a conduit for their flirting.

The classroom dalliance even wormed its way into Alfonso Cuaron’s Gravity script, as the ever-charming Clooney plays the experienced, yarn-spinning astronaut with ease. And, responding to Bullock’s playful claim that Clooney’s “not everyone's cup of tea,” the silver-haired icon decided to divulge something everyone knows isn’t true but secretly hopes is.

Julia Roberts Honors George Clooney, Or 'George Looney' At Britannia Awards

Julia Roberts honored her great friend George Clooney at BAFTA's Britannia Awards in Los Angeles on Saturday night (November 9, 2013), meaning Sacha Baron Cohen accidentally killing an old woman wasn't the only notable highlight.

Roberts presented her close pal with the Stanley Kubrick Award for Excellence in Film, joking, "I'm normally in my second REM cycle by now so let's get this done," after being pushed on-stage in a wheelchair while barefooted.

The jokes went on. "There are two obvious reasons why I was chosen to do this: one, Brad Pitt was out of town. Two, Matt Damon, he's in town, but he was unavailable," said Roberts, to rousing laughter, according to E! Online.

George Clooney 'Rant' Against Russell Crowe & Leonardo DiCaprio Explained By His Publicist

George Clooney Leonardo Dicaprio Russell Crowe

George Clooney has had to explain himself after being quoted with some not-so-nice words for two of Hollywood's leading men: Russell Crowe and Leonardo Dicaprio. The hunky actor became a talking point earlier this week after apparently bad mouthing Leo and his entourage, as well as reliving the feud started between himself and Crowe - sparked by Crowe in 2005 - and revealing that there is still bad blood between them.

George Clooney
George's comments were taken out of context

In the interview for Esquire magazine, the 52-year-old actor recalled playing a basketball game against Leo, and complained particularly about the way in which his friends behaved before and during it. After finding himself on the winning side of an 11-0 drubbing, Clooney told the glossy, “And the discrepancy between their game and how they talked about their game made me think of how important it is to have someone in your life to tell you what’s what. I’m not sure Leo has someone like that."

George Clooney has moulded an image of himself as the nice guy around Hollywood, regularly pitching in on humanitarian projects around the world and hosting and attending fundraisers and the likes for example, but it turns out that Mr Nice has a few bad bones in his body too. In a no-holds-barred interview with Esquire for their December issue, the actor took some unexpected verbal shots at Russell Crowe and Leonardo Dicaprio.

Crowe and Clooney apparently have a long-standing feud, one that Crowe attempted to bring to an end, only for Clooney to laugh off his attempts at reconciliation. Their beef began when Crowe called the 52-year-old Clooney a "sellout" some years ago, with Clooney saying that he has shot down every attempt to win his favour since then.

Sacha Baron Cohen not only left the Beverly Hilton with the highest honour awarded for comedy by the BAFTA-LA ‘s annual Britannia Awards, but also left with the audience either still in shock or holding on to their sides with laughter following an inspired practical joke. Los Angeles' British alliance was out in force for the Saturday (9 Nov.) night ceremony, and there were even a few non-Brit Hollywood heavyweights doing their best to pretent to be from the other side of the Atlantic for the awards show.

Airing on BBC America on Sunday (10 Nov.) night, host Rob Brydon had the job of handling the more raucous than usual crowd, which had plenty to do with Cohen's stunt. It began when Salma Hayek came on stage with an elderly woman to present the Charlie Chaplin Britannia Award For Excellence In Comedy award. Confined to a wheelchair, she was identified as Grace Collington, an actress she said appeared with Charlie Chaplin in 1931′s City Lights when she was just 5-years-old. She very believably told the audience, “At 87, she’s the oldest surviving actor to have worked with Chaplin in a silent movie,” at which point Cohen climbed to the stage to accept the honour. The elderly woman presented Cohen with one of Chaplin's trademark canes, at which point Cohen pushed her from the stage and began his acceptance speech as 'Collington' lied motionless on the ground.

Today's The Day - UK Audiences Finally Get To Enjoy Alfonso Cuaron's Head-Spinning 'Gravity'

Sandra Bullock George Clooney Alfonso Cuaron

Alfonso Cuaron’s Gravity is already an established hit in the US, but tonight sees the film’s premiere in the UK. Expectations are high. Cuaron’s deep space thrill ride has gotten mixed reviews in terms of story and acting – while Sandra Bullock and George Clooney are both talented performers, carrying out a movie with just two characters is a difficult feat. But it is in the end the film’s visual landscape and special effects that have attracted the attention of both critics and fans across the land (the land in this case being the US.)

George Clooney, Gravity Still
Opinions on Clooney's performance are contorversial.

Still, there is something to be said about the plot, which sees Bullock as a medical engineer and Clooney as an astronaut on his final mission, team up to face a crisis, which threatens to leave them adrift in space. Several critics have praised the film’s frantic story, which, coupled with the dizzying visuals is enough to leave a lasting impression on even the toughest of viewers. The Independents Geoffrey Macnab refers to the plot as “pared down and primal,” which sounds like a particularly apt description.

Is 'Gravity' Even That Good? Why You Might Not Leave The Cinema Happy

Sandra Bullock George Clooney Alfonso Cuaron

For all the hyperbole, Gravity certainly has a lot to live up to. And the first thing to say is that, visually, the film is as stunning as people are saying. But it’s not the perfect movie the critics have built it up to be. Not by a long shot. Second thing to say is that this article is full of spoilers.

Gravity above earthGravity looks beautiful, but the style outweighs the substance

So you’ve got Sandra Bullock’s Dr. Ryan Stone. She’s got a boy’s name – it’s mentioned in the film, but this is the kind of vapid characterization applied to Cuaron’s space thriller in general. Clooney’s Matt is supposed to be charming – his in-joke with Houston, that he tells a lot of stories, brought about a few chuckles – but he’s ultimately no one to really care about. His death – we told you there would be spoilers – felt about as real as his return. And thank god his return wasn’t real.

Gravity Review

Excellent

More like a 91-minute thrill-ride than an astronaut adventure movie, this tour de force throws us out into space without a safety line then thrills us with a series of near misses that take our breath away. Along the way, Sandra Bullock gets to deliver one of her best-ever performances while filmmaker Alfonso Cuaron wows us with his seamless technical wizardry. So even if the plot feels naggingly implausible, we hang on for dear life.

It begins during a Space Shuttle mission to repair the Hubble Telescope with the cheeky team leader Kowalski (Clooney) and nervous rookie Dr Stone (Bullock). Then after the Russians destroy a distant satellite, the field of debris gathers momentum and knocks out communications before sweeping Kowalski and Stone away from the shuttle and the rest of the crew. Tethered together, they decide to make their way to the International Space Station for help. But they only have 90 minutes before they intersect with the debris storm again. And both power and oxygen are running out.

Earth looks so beautiful floating just below them that we are continually taken aback by the fact that this is essentially a horror movie set in the silent weightlessness of space. Every sequence is carefully staged to ratchet up the suspense, which sometimes begins to feel a little overwrought as it continually comes down to another last-gasp moment. But Bullock plays this especially well, letting us identify with her panic and tenacity. By contrast, Clooney is sarcastic and comical, cheering her up with ridiculous anecdotes as he tries to spark her survival instinct.

'Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa' Finally Topples 'Gravity' From The Top Of The US Box Office

Johnny Knoxville Sandra Bullock George Clooney Tom Hanks Michael Fassbender Brad Pitt Javier Bardem Ridley Scott

Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa is this weeks number one movie at the box office, ousting the mega-successful Gravity from the top spot after a three week stay. The Johnny Knoxville-starring prank fest more than doubled its estimated cost of $15 million in the first weekend alone, amassing an impressive estimate of $32 million since it was released last week.

Bad Grandpa
Bad Grandpa has topped the US box office at the first attempt

Exceeding expectations by scoring more than $30 mil. at the box office, Bad Grandpa comfortably came in first place, averaging just short of $10,000 at each cinema it opened at across America. The fourth feature length outing from the Jackass team is now the second most successful of the bunch, just about tying with the first movie and coming some way off the estimated $50 mil. made by Jackass 3-D. Box office estimates indicate that the film should end its domestic run with about $75 million.

'Jackass Present: Bad Grandpa' Looks Like The Early Favourite To Top Weekend Box Office

Johnny Knoxville Sandra Bullock George Clooney Paul Greengrass Tom Hanks Brad Pitt Ridley Scott Michael Fassbender Javier Bardem Cameron Diaz

Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa is predicted to earn close to $30 million at the box office in it's opening weekend, according to Deadline, making it the most likely candidate to finish at the top of the box office come the end of the week. This means that after three weeks of dominating the US box office, Gravity may finally be replaced as America's favourite movie at cinemas.

Bad Grandpa
Bad Grandpa should be an easy weekend winner

Depending on what side of the $30 mil. mark it lands on, the film can become either the third or fourth most successful R-rated film of the year in terms of opening box office revenue. Should the film exceed expectations even further, it could potentially place even higher. The film already made an estimated $11 - 12 mil. on the opening day of the weekend - Friday, 25 October - and could be well on its way to exceeding the $30 mil. mark should the numbers continue to add up. Not bad for a film that only cost $15 million to make.

Dreamworks and Touchstone could have been forgiven for being confident in their film, The Fifth Estate. They secured Benedict Cumberbatch, Daniel Bruhl, an intriguing story with infinite press, and only spend $28m putting the whole thing together.

Financially, things were looking good, even if the reviews were worryingly negative. But it looks as though the critical mauling taken by the Wikileaks drama deeply affected those thinking of seeing it. Opening this weekend (18-20 Oct), The Fifth Estate grabbed a measly $1.7m – according to Box Office Mojo – putting it 8th in the top 10.

The Monuments Men - Alternative Trailer

The Monuments Men are a group of seven scholars from art historians to museum curators who are enlisted by the American government in the 1940s to retrieve some of the world's most priceless artefacts and art pieces from the hands of the Nazis during World War II. They plan to destroy certain parts of mankind's history bit by bit and, though it seems like a suicidal mission in itself, it is absolutely essential that the US doesn't let that happen. The men involved in the program have only received basic army training having been thrust into action with precious little time to lose. Encountering tumbling down shelters and landmines everywhere, they truly encapsulate the meaning of bravery by taking to the front line to protect history, no matter what the consequences.

Curaon's 'Gravity' Confidence Vindicated By $100 Box Office, Finally A Sci-Fi Oscar?

Alfonso Cuaron George Clooney Sandra Bullock

Since Gravity’s debut at the Venice Film festival, the critics have been raving. The film’s plot – its substance – combined with the sheer delights that come with its cinematography and special effects have lead it to critical acclaim, and, more importantly for the studio, it’s been a box office triumph.

It could have been so different if the pressure exerted on director Alfonso Cuaron had told. He revealed that the studio wanted him to cut back to mission control, known as Houston, as in, ‘we have a problem’. But that was a problem for the Mexican auteur, as was a love story between Dr. Ryan Stone (Sandra Bullock) and someone back at ‘Houston’.

He passed on devising a list last year, owing to Django Unchained, though in 2011 Woody Allen's Midnight in Paris - a wonderful movie that actually went onto win Best Original Screenplay at the Oscars - topped Quentin's list, edging out Rise of the Planet of the Apes and the excellent Moneyball, with Brad Pitt. Tarantino threw in a couple of curveballs with X-Men: First Class, The Skin I Live In, Attack The Block and Warrior.

Scarlett Johansson Wins The Internet And Second Esquire "Sexiest Woman Alive" Title

Scarlett Johansson George Clooney Brad Pitt Ryan Reynolds Johnny Depp

If you watch any film with Scarlett Johansson, it is abundantly clear that the lady is actually a talented actress, although all that tends to get overshadowed by her constantly topping of any and every “Sexiest Woman Alive” list around. Case in point: this month’s edition of Esquire, which has named ScarJo as its reigning queen of sex appeal for the second year in a row.

Scarlett Johansson, Don Jon New York Premiere
No one can argue that she doesn't deserve the title.

Of course, it’s not like the actress minds the repeat honor. She joins the likes of Johnny Depp, George Clooney and Brad Pitt in the exclusive two-timers club of Esquire. It is so exclusive, in fact, that Johansson is the first woman to be voted “sexiest” twice. Of course, she had to comment somehow – and she received the title with grace, poise and general awesomness, as well as a bit of brutal honesty. "I'm the only woman to win twice right? You know, I gotta hustle," Johansson tells the magazine. "I'm a 28-year-old woman in the movie business, right? Pretty soon the roles you're offered all become mothers. Then they just sort of stop. I have to hedge against that with work-theater, producing; this thing with Esquire."

'Gravity's' Pull Is Irresistible As Cuaron's 3D Space Thriller Sets Box Office Record

George Clooney Sandra Bullock Alfonso Cuaron

As we foresaw – alongside a number of commentators – in our box office preview last Friday, Alfonso Cuaron’s Gravity topped the box office on the second October weekend, posting record figures along the way. We’ll come clean; the record-breaking part wasn’t under the spell of our clairvoyance.

GravityThe special effects in Gravity have been lauded

So Gravity managed $55.6m on its opening weekend, putting it on track to surpass its $100m production budget, and more than likely blow the marketing budget out of the water, too. A budget, which, when you consider how much we’ve seen of the film – not much – won’t have been astronomically high anyway.

'Gravity' Leads The Way At The Box Office And Sets New October Record Too

Sandra Bullock George Clooney Ben Affleck Justin Timberlake

Gravity has proved to be the unlikely success story of early October thanks to the overwhelming word-of-mouth success. Having been heralded by the internet long before it was given it's official release on Friday, 4 October, the film rode out it's first weekend stay at the box office with immense success, gaining further praise and breaking the October box office record along the way.

Gravity
Gravity has soared to success

Starring Sandra Bullock and George Clooney, both of whom (Bullock in particular) are being touted for awards success thanks to their performances in the film, Gravity has been described as an out of this world ocular treat, held together thanks to the gripping direction of Alfonso Cuaron and the performance of the two stars. This critical and internet-fuelled momentum has seen the film smash previous box office records for the month of October by bringing in an estimated $55.6 million over the weekend. As well as beating the record previously held by Paranormal Activity 3, the film is also the best opening for both of the film's stars, beating The Heat and Batman and Robin respectively.

'Gravity' Opens Top Of Box Office And Is Hoping For A $50 Million North American Debut

George Clooney Sandra Bullock

Gravity hit theatres in the US on Friday (Oct 4th) and launched with $17.5 million dollars at the box office. The space epic is expected to reach the $50 million mark in its North American debut this weekend. If it does earn that amount, the film will be one of the top October openings of all time and the best for a non-sequel.

Box Office Preview: Can 'Parkland' Take On Gravity's Pull, Runner Runner's Star Quality?

Zac Efron Justin Timberlake Ben Affleck George Clooney Sandra Bullock Alfonso Cuaron

Three films go head to head this weekend, all with reasonable claim to the top spot. But will the audiences go for a historical to learn about the demise of JFK; head for the stars with Justin Timberlake and Ben Affleck or be sucked in by Gravity’s delightful pull.

Colin Hanks and Zac Efron in ParklandColin Hanks and Zac Efron in Parkland

Despite some mediocre reviews, Parkland strings together some attractive qualities: a bona fide history lesson, a great cast and, of course, Zac Efron’s face, which has proven to be a marketable asset up until now, so why would that change now? There are two things that mean Parkland won’t be top of the box office come Monday.
