In an unexpected turn of events Hollywood actor George Clooney has decided to venture into the world of politics. 53-year-old Clooney is allegedly planning to run for the Governor of California position and is already being wooed by Obama’s Democrat party who are vying for him to run for office in 2018.

The decision to switch careers comes not too long after the announcement that Clooney plans to wed British human rights lawyer, Amal Alamuddin. Perhaps his fiancee’s super serious career has encouraged the Ocean’s Eleven star reassess the course of his life? It’s thought that Alamuddin wants to continue with her career in London once the nuptials are out of the way, but may one day happily move over to the US to support her husband’s budding new career.

A source explained: “George is already hugely popular with the Democrats and were better place to put him than as the Governor of California the home of Hollywood. It has always been a huge stronghold for the party and one that has a proven record for getting politicians in to the Oval office.”

Clooney is already good friends with current US President, Barack Obama, so he’s already got a few useful contacts. Just a few months ago Clooney headed over to the White House to catch a screening of his movie, The Monuments Men, with the president. Alamuddin attended the special screening with her future-husband and witnesses claim the couple were “stuck like glue together” and “holding hands.”

A source added: “Now that Amal is by his side it has boosted his credentials even higher. She is as far removed as some of the girls he has previously dated and possesses incredible intelligence that bodes well if she ever does become First Lady.”

Clooney isn’t the first actor to become a politician. Ronald Reagan, 40th President of the United States, landed a Hollywood role in 1937 and appeared in over 50 films before being elected Governor of California in 1966. Perhaps Clooney will use Reagan as a model for his own career?

Clint Eastwood may be one of the world’s greatest actors and directors, but he also gave politics a good go. He ran for office in Carmel, California in 1986 and although he served just one-two year term in that time he managed to champion environmental issues and approve the building of an ice cream parlour - which was one of his campaign promises.

No-one took Arnold Schwarzenegger seriously when he decided to run for Governor of California. More fool them, he actually managed to win and has since become know as The Governator.  He was even voted in for a second term, which finished in 2011.
