George R.R. Martin promised that he’d write in and gruesomely kill a new character And the winner of that Prizeo.com competition was Dave Goldblatt, a product specialist who reigns from San Francisco. The Facebook employee threw down $20k for the opportunity to be an actual character in the next Song of Ice and Fire book, and then be brutally killed off in Martin’s patented style.

Game of Thrones charactersGoldblatt paid $20k to be one of these guys for a bit in the clearest vindication of the saying "more money than sense" ever

"I’m just lucky enough to be in a position to do this," Goldblatt said of the $20,000 prize. "Obviously, the money is going to charity, so it’s an added bonus. I didn’t immediately seek to help wolf sanctuaries, but the more I read about the charities, I learned it was a worthwhile cause." (ABC)

The prize - named "martyr" level – was actually for two people, but the female character has decided to stay anonymous. The two winners will choose their "character's station in the world (lordling, knight, peasant, whore, lady, maester, septon) and you will certainly meet a grisly death!" the Prizeo website stated.

Goldblatt decided to be Valryian, who are famous for their everlasting steel. "You read some piece of fiction and for whatever reason you think one particular character or race is cool – and for whatever reason, I thought the Valyrians were cool. I’m hoping in future books we get to see more of them,” said Goldblatt when he was asked about his decision.

In other GoT news, Martin has bemoaned the length of the TV adaptation of his famous books. Like most fans of the show, he wants more episodes. “As I’ve been saying for years, I wish they had more hours – every time I see another HBO show I wonder why we only have 10 and they have 13,” he said, adding that producers could “include smaller scenes that we had to cut, scenes that make the story deeper and richer.”
