The Movies Of The Wachowski's: From Best To Worst

Lilly Wachowski The Matrix V For Vendetta Hugo Weaving Keanu Reeves Carrie-Anne Moss Laurence Fishburne Halle Berry Natalie Portman Jennifer Tilly Gina Gershon

Press shy and intentionally low-profile, the Wachowski brothers (now brother and sister) occupy a rare position in Hollywood of being household names, responsible for some truly awe-inspiring works of cinematic innovation that have enamoured critics and audiences alike. Yet, unlike directors of a similar calibre and position in pop culture- Tarantino and JJ Abrams for instance, they allow their films to speak for themselves, eschewing the usual directorial promotional tropes and refusing interviews.

 Wachowskis
Andy and Lana Wachowski rarely appear in public and never commit to promoting their films.

They are so ardent to withhold anonymity in favour of greater artistic candour that it is reportedly highlighted in the Wachowski’s contracts that they will remain unburdened by arduous press commitments. Despite this, the pair are amongst the biggest names in Hollywood, thanks mainly to the Matrix trilogy, which revolutionized the cinematic experience. A Wachowski Bros. picture is synonymous with outstanding cinematography, multi-dimensional plots and a visual feast that is never short of the spectacular. Positing a triple threat of sorts, the Andy and Lana have proven their ability to not only direct a picture, but also to produce and pen truly original and brilliant screenplays in their own right.

Video - Gina Gershon Wonders Why Critics Of 'Showgirls' Still Talk About It

'P.S. I Love You' actress Gina Gershon discusses herself and her new book 'My Search for Cleo: How I Found My Pussy and Lost My Mind' at a fan meet and greet session at Books and Books in Coral Gables, Florida. As rude as it sounds, she explains that the title actually refers to when she discovered that her cat Cleo Patra was actually male despite believing it was female for a long period of time.

Video - Matthew McConaughey And Gina Gershon Arrive At Killer Joe NY Premiere

Arrivals at the New York premiere of crime thriller 'Killer Joe' included star Matthew Mcconaughey ('Magic Mike') alongside his model wife Camila Alves who is pregnant (clearly!) with their third child as well as his co-star Gina Gershon ('P.S. I Love You') who signs fan autographs and looks stunning in a dark green figure hugging dress that shows off all her assets. Award winning comedy actress Roseanne Barr also made an appearance.

Gershon told Vanity Fair that she was left with 'tiger marks' on her back after shooting a scene involving a violent altercation between her character and McConaughey's. He pleaded his innocence and insisted, 'I wasn't trying to kill her, I would never try to kill her. We were just teaching a lesson.'

Killer Joe Review

Very Good
This film's unhinged plot constantly catches us off guard with its bizarre twists and turns, all of which are grounded on the hapless characters. But despite strong filmmaking, it feels like we're watching a play, especially in the contained final act.

Chris (Hirsch) is in big trouble with a local gangster (Macaulay), and to raise some cash he proposes to his father Ansel (Church) that they kill his mother, Ansel's ex, for the insurance money. The problem is that Ansel's vampish new wife Sharla (Gershon) wants her cut. And the policy is in the name of Chris' innocent little sister Dottie (Temple). When they hire Joe (McConaughey), a detective who moonlights as a hitman, they're unable to pay up front. So he asks for Dottie as a retainer.

Dreamland Review

Good
If the movies are any guide, the world's best stories can be found in the dingiest, most remote, most podunk trailer parks in the country. From Gas Food Lodging to Raising Arizona, trailer parks appear to be populated with only two categories of people: misunderstood genius artists and drunks.

Dreamland may be stuffed full of cliched characters in its trailer trash setting (and why a trailer park would be constructed under power lines in the middle of the New Mexico desert I have no idea), but let's put that aside for a moment. At its heart it is not the awful direct-to-DVD movie that you're probably expecting. The only legitimate reason for that is star Agnes Bruckner, who continues to take role after role in movies that simply don't measure up to her capabilities as one of our best young actresses. (If you haven't seen her in her other headlining role this year, The Woods, don't.)

Good
What better way to start an action movie than with... statistics!

From that rousing introduction we are thrown into the world of Driven, the highly anticipated CART-inspired movie that takes us on a whirlwind tour of made-up races.

Showgirls Review

Good
It's so bad it's good. But hey, it ain't that good.ay?

Showgirls is the capper in writer Joe Eszterhas' storied career. First came Flashdance. Then he shocked us with Basic Instinct. Then he writes Showgirls, an ultra-explicit NC-17 drama about a Las Vegas showgirl who goes from nobody to "Goddess" by playing the Power Game better than everyone else.

Cocktail Review

OK
Before there was Coyote Ugly, there was Cocktail.

The story of an ex-G.I. (Cruise) who can't get a job in the Manhattan business world and turns to bartending to make his fortune is as a bartender, pouring with style, jumping on the counter, and spouting poetry. The love story with rich girl Elisabeth Shue is hilarious -- but watch for Kelly Lynch and Gina Gershon, both unknown at the time, in small tryst roles.
