Pitiful Natalie Cole Tribute At The Grammys Incites Family's Anger

Natalie Cole Grammy Awards

This year's 'In Memoriam' segment of the Grammy Awards was a particularly emotional one this year, as tributes were held for some of the biggest legends of the music industry including David Bowie, Maurice White and Lemmy Kilmister. However, the family of Natalie Cole have expressed their outrage at this singer's under-representation.

Natalie ColeNatalie Cole only got a brief mention at the 2016 Grammys

Cole died of heart failure at the age of 65 on New Year's Eve after a successful R&B career following in the footsteps of her father Nat King Cole. She's the recipient of nine Grammy awards and a number of lifetime achievement awards with 6 number one albums and a number of R&B hits under her belt. But despite this, her recognition at the 2016 Grammys was minimal to say the least with just a short clip of her song 'Unforgettable' shown at the event.

Lady Gaga Delivers Flawless David Bowie Tribute At The 2016 Grammys

Lady GaGa David Bowie Grammy Awards

Lady GaGa absolutely slayed it with her David Bowie tribute performance at the 58th Annual Grammy Awards last night (February 15th 2016), singing a medley of some of his best tunes absolutely flawlessly all while dressed from head to toe in a dramatic, Bowie-esque ensemble.

Lady GagaLady Gaga took her Bowie look to the red carpet

In what was probably one of the most impassioned performances of her entire career so far, Gaga delivered a fitting tribute to the late singing legend, who passed away after a long struggle with cancer in January this year, following the release of his album 'Blackstar'.

Taylor Swift Hits Back At Kanye West During Grammys Speech

Kanye West Taylor Swift Grammy Awards

It's safe to say Taylor Swift is not so cool about Kanye West's recent comments regarding how she got her fame, despite his claims that his new song was all her idea. She took to the Grammys to speak out about the incident publicly for the first time, giving some important advice to young rising stars.

Taylor SwiftTaylor Swift calls Kanye out on 'Famous' lyrics

So as much as they try to get along, there is 'Bad Blood' between Swift and West once again following the release of the latter's controversial new song 'Famous', in which he makes explicit comments about the female star in regards to her rise to popularity. Swift hadn't commented on the incident herself until now, though a spokesperson had come forward to deny West's claims.

Grammy Awards Kendrick Lamar Taylor Swift Mark Ronson

Mark RonsonMark Ronson wins Record of the Year for 'Uptown Funk'

Record of the Year, of course, went to Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars for 'Uptown Funk' which also earned Best Pop Duo/Group Performance and the Dave Audé Remix won Best Remixed Recording for a Non-Classical song. It was Taylor Swift who landed the coveted Album Of The Year, however, with '1989' also becoming Best Pop Vocal Album. Taylor Swift, The Weeknd And Kendrick Lamar: Favourites For The 2016 Grammy Awards

Grammy Awards Taylor Swift The Weeknd Kendrick Lamar

The Grammy Award nominations for 2016 have finally been announced, with Taylor Swift, The Weeknd and Kendrick Lamar predictably leading with a total of seven nods each. There's a massive 83 categories altogether, so here's a summary of what's going on in the main four.

Taylor SwiftTaylor Swift is a top contender in the main categories

Taylor Swift is pretty much a Grammy staple these days having been nominated every year since 2012. She hasn't won anything the last two years, but we'd be surprised if she loses out in 2016. Single 'Blank Space' is up for Record Of The Year, Song Of The Year and Best Pop Solo Performance, while 'Bad Blood' featuring Kendrick Lamar could also bag Best Pop Duo/Group Performance and Best Music Video, and album '1989' is looking at Album Of The Year and Best Pop Vocal Album.

Kelly Osbourne caused a flurry of speculation after her appearance at the 2015 Grammys, where she looked a little curvier than recent photographs have suggested in a figure-hugging black and white dress.

The 'Fashion Police' host looked seriously hot in a Christian Siriano long-sleeved, fishtail gown on Sunday (February 8th 2015), but it seems it may have clung to all the wrong places judging by the response it got over Twitter, where several eagle-eyed observers quizzed her on whether or not she was expecting a baby.

Unsurprisingly, Kanye West Isn't Happy With Yeezus' Album Of The Year Snub At The Grammys

Kanye West Grammy Awards Macklemore Taylor Swift Daft Punk Kendrick Lamar

Kanye West isn't afraid to make his feelings be known and as you may expect, the rapper had plenty to say after the nominations for the 2014 Grammy Awards were revealed last week, with his latest album Yeezus only getting two nominations in the rap categories. Rather than count his blessings, Kanye let his feelings be known at a recent stop off in Phoenix, Arizona, where he queried what the Grammys are "trying to say."

Kanye West
Kanye can't believe he only has two Grammy nods

A video of Kanye's near-15-minute rant made its way on to KissFM's Instagram page and website, with the opinionated rapper questioning why on earth he has been overlooked in favour of Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Sara Bareilles and others Kanye would never consider to be on his level. Informing the crowd, the rapper raved, "Yeezus is the top 1 or 2 album on every single list, but only gets two nominations from the Grammys. What are they trying to say?"

Audio Engineer Ray Dolby, "A True Visionary," Dies Aged 80

Grammy Awards

Ray Dolby, founder of Dolby Laboratories and pioneer in the field of sound engineering, has sadly passed away aged 80. Having suffered with Alzheimer's Disease for many years, Dolby was diagnosed with Leukaemia this summer, reports Reuters.

Ray was born in Portland, Oregon but grew up in the San Francisco area. Whilst he was a student, he began his career in the audio and visual recording fields by helping with the development of early video tape recording systems for the Ampex Corporation. He then went on to study for a PhD at Cambridge University and set up his first laboratory, 'Dolby Laboratories,' in London in 1965.

He made his name as a pioneer of noise reduction technology that helped produce clearer sound for music and cinema and his name soon became synonymous with home sound systems. Dolby Laboratories was moved to San Francisco in 1976 and was rewarded for his innovations in sound technology by being presented with an Oscar in 1989 for his contributions to cinema which he accepted with his company's executive, Ioan Allen.

Randy Travis Suffers Stroke, Family Requests 'Prayers And Support'

Randy Travis Grammy Awards

The ailing country music star Randy Travis suffered a stroke while undergoing surgery for congestive heart failure at a Texas hospital late on Wednesday (July 10, 2013). His publicist said Travis suffered the stroke while being treated for the heart condition caused by a viral respiratory infection that landed him in hospital three weeks ago. It is understood surgeons were trying to relive pressure on Travis' brain.

"His family and friends here with him at the hospital request your prayers and support," Webster said in a news release, circulated by the New York Daily News. Prior to the stroke, doctors said Travis was showing signs of improvement though he remains in a critical condition.

The 54-year-old, one of the best loved country stars in American, was involved in a number of embarrassing drunken incidents earlier this year including being found inebriated after the Super Bowl. He developed a viral upper respiratory infection three weeks ago, which weakened the heart muscle, leading to heart failure.

Taylor Swift And Amy Poehler Start Newest Celebrity Feud

Taylor Swift Amy Poehler Grammy Awards

There seems to be a reluctant feud boiling up in the world of celebrity: Taylor Swift and Amy Poehler are subtly trading blows in the press, veiled thinly under compliments but biting nevertheless.

It all started when Poehler and her comedy cohort Tina Fey took a wee dig at Swift at the 2013 Grammy Awards. "stay away from Michael J. Fox's son” they quipped, making the country-pop singer one of the only people not to enjoy their work that night. "You know, Katie Couric is one of my favorite people," Swift told Vanity Fair when they asked about the joke. "Because she said to me she had heard a quote that she loved that said, ‘There's a special place in hell for women who don't help other women.'" Poehler’s response was humble, though, as she clearly doesn’t want another #1 hit being written about her. "Aw, I feel bad if she was upset," she said. "I am a feminist and she is a young and talented girl. "That being said, I do agree I am going to hell," the comedian added. "But for other reasons. Mostly boring tax stuff."

Did Adele Tell Chris Brown Off At The Grammys? If So, What For?

Chris Brown Adele Grammy Awards

This year's Grammy Awards proved to be a confusing occasion. Frank Ocean, despite having been nominated for 6 awards walked away with only two, and was beaten by Mumford & Sons to best album. Very confusing. Perhaps more confusing though are the photos that have come to light of Adele seeming to have some very stern words with Chris Brown, DigitalSpy reports.

It's unclear what Adele was actually saying to Chris Brown, but there's plenty of things to call him out on. She may have been calling him out again about his beating of girlfriend Rihanna four years ago, or about his scuffle with Frank Ocean last week. She could have been criticising him for not joining in with the standing ovation when Frank Ocean justly won Best Contemporary Urban Album, beating Brown. Or, she might have been calling him names and telling him he's a terrible singer, but (while we begrudge saying it) he's a great singer and that would be unfair, and we'd loath to think of Adele as anything other than just in her actions. Of course, it could have been nothing, but that would be boring.

Adele also won best performance of the night and showed up in an adorable red embroidered dress covered in flowers. The other big winner of the night was curve ball, Gotye who won best record and Best Pop/Duo performance for 'Somebody That I Used to Know' with Kimbra, plus Best Alternative Music Album for 'Mirrors'.

Janelle Monae In Control, And Why The Grammy Awards 2013 Have A 'Significant Meaning' For Her

Janelle Monae Fun Big Boi Grammy Awards

Janelle Monae's career has skyrocketed over the past few years, leading to her being nominated for three Grammys in 2011 for Best R&B album and also for her collaboration with Big Boi. This year another collaboration, with Fun has catapulted her further from the peripheries of music and further into the view of the public. Speaking to Billboard she has explained how this year's awards meaning something entirely different to Grammy Awards gone by.

"This year's Grammys has a significant meaning," she says. "I was nominated before for my own work, you know, my own album and I had the opportunity to perform in 2011. That was a big moment for my career... This time around I'm there to support Fun. and we're there together. This is about team work; it's about collaborations and making people happy with our music. That means a lot; that's a big deal."

While team work is certainly an important part of her career - she's now top of the list for many artists to collaborate with - but just as importantly is her ability to have done that without compromise. When she started her career financial success wasn't a drive force, she says. "It was just to make music on my own terms or create my own image, do my own hair, do my own makeup. It's an artistic expression for me... That's why I'm here today, because I've been able to be in control of that."

Ahead Of The Grammys 2013 - How Carly Rae Jepsen's Aunt Made The 'Call Me Maybe' Decision An Easy One

Carly Rae Jepsen Justin Bieber Grammy Awards

Carly Ray Jepsen's call me maybe was easily the most infectious song of 2012, but considering there isn't a Grammy award for 'Most Infectious' (there totally should be), she'll have to make do with Song of The Year and Best Pop Solo Performance - not bad going really.

But the decision to release 'Call me Maybe' wasn't as easy as you'd think, as Jepsen regales to the L.A Times when asked if she knew if she was on to a winner. "No ... to be honest, and this might sound silly, but I was quite content with how things were going in Canada. I was shaping out a career there, and I was really excited because I'd had my first ever real record deal," she recalls. "I can remember we were choosing between "Call Me Maybe" and another song, "Curiosity." The moment my aunt started dancing to "Call Me Maybe," and she doesn't really dance to anything, I realized maybe we had something."

And have something she did. 'Call me Maybe' shot to the top of the charts and wouldn't be budged for 9 whole weeks, hurtling Jepsen towards global fame. The Grammy's recognition of her music does come as surprise, though, given that they often ignore huge pop songs, as Justin Bieber just keeps on finding out.

Grammy's Cover-Up Dress Code: Surely Rihanna Was Intended Recipient?

Rihanna Jack White Maroon 5 Wiz Khalifa Taylor Swift Grammy Awards

Is it unfair to assume that Rihanna was the most likely target of the Grammys’ dress code warning email? We’re looking down the list of performers and you know what? We don’t think this email was directed at Jack White. We don’t think it was directed at Alicia Keys. And we really don’t think it was directed at Maroon 5. Deadline.com got hold of the missive, which was emailed out to the ceremony’s live performers and anyone who may appear on camera, instructing them to “be sure that buttocks and female breasts are adequately covered.” And reminding them that “thong type costumes are problematic.” And there was some very specific rules about which parts of your breasts may and may not be on display (none of it, basically). And don’t even ask about the rules on the visibility of genitalia.

We’re really struggling to picture Taylor Swift rocking up on stage in a “thong type costume.” Mumford & Sons doing some kind of striptease, mid-song? We can’t see it. We also can’t picture the Preservation Hall Band exposing their butt cracks (unless they drop something, maybe and need to bend down to fetch it). At a push, we can imagine hip-hop star Wiz Khalifa might have his trousers a little low-slung, risking the exposure of some part of his junk, or his trunk but seriously? There’s only one person this email was aimed at and that’s Rihanna, surely?

The 24 year old has a history of stepping out in risky outfits. Remember the semi-see-through striped dress of 2009? The mid-riff display and leather hot-pants from last year’s Grammys (some definite buttock curvature on display there)? The barely-there strapless bra top and equally-barely-there denim cut offs, complete with fishnets that she opted for in Ottawa in 2011? Yep. We reckon that email was intended for Rihanna. Everyone else can just relax.

Grammy's Slated For Al Walser's Nomination In Best Dance Recording, Artist Defends Himself

Calvin Harris Grammy Awards

For the second year in a row, the Grammys have taken heat for allowing an unknown artist into a category amongst some of the industry's biggest players.

Last year it was Linda Chorney's inclusion in the Americana category. This year, the decision to recognise Al Walser alongside Avicii, Swedish House Mafia, Calvin Harris and Skrillex in the best dance recording category has raised eyebrows to dizzy new heights.

"I think the Grammys need to take a hard look at their infrastructure to make sure that something this disgraceful doesn't happen again," music producer and DJ Tommie Sunshine said. Bill Freimuth, The Recording Academy's vice president of awards disagrees, and thinks the social media program allows independent and less well-known artists to boost their profile.

Grammys Host LL Cool J Excited For 2013 Event After Whitney Houston Debut Tragedy

LL Cool J Whitney Houston Grammy Awards

LL Cool JJ isn’t a heartless man by any stretch, but even he’s admitted that presenting the 2013 Grammy Awards is going to be much more enjoyable than it was for him last year.

The rapper earned plaudits for presenting the Grammys in 2012, but his task had changed drastically on the eve of the show, after it was discovered that Whitney Houston had died in her hotel room. The show was hastily changed, turning into a much more somber tribute to the fallen star. "It made the event bittersweet, and there was a whole cloud of sorrow on it," 45-year-old – whose real name is James Todd Smith – said to USA Today. "But at the same time, I was glad it went the way it went. We were able to pay respect to Whitney and her family, and at the same time give all of those deserving artists an opportunity to shine."

This year promises to be far more upbeat, though not everyone’s looking forward to the event this coming Sunday (February 10, 2013). There are the usual rumblings that hip-hop has been under-represented once again across the categories. It’s something LL Cool J understands, but he also pointed out "Every person in every genre is always going to want their genre to be represented. That's the nature of the beast. I'd like to see more hip-hop, but you could make an argument for more of everything. The Grammys have made a huge statement by taking a hip-hop icon and making him their host. So I think they're embracing hip-hop culture." The man himself speaks as a rap star who successfully managed to win a Grammy of course. Twice in fact.

Carly Rae Jepsen On Balancing Life With Work, Infectious Track 'Call Me Maybe' Up For Two Grammys

Carly Rae Jepsen Justin Bieber Grammy Awards

Carly Rae Jepsen's infectious and repetitive, enormously successful single from 2012, 'Call Me Maybe' could have been just a one-hit-wonder. However, with two Grammy nominations under her belt and managing to top the Billboard charts in the US for weeks on end, it appears Jepsen's here to stay.

Speaking to the Associated Press she explained her surprise. "I was gunning maybe for Top 10 on iTunes. That was my little, mini secret goal," she said. So, appearing in the Grammys is an honor beyond her wildest dreams, it seems. Jepsen came third in Canadian Idol so while her career wasn't a dead cert she definitely had enough prior exposure to give her a leg up.

Not only that but she's pals with runaway star, fellow Canadian, Justin Bieber. Speaking to Seventeen Magazine, reported via the Inquisitor, the 26 year old singer spoke of how he's been a guiding light for her. "Justin leads by example. I love that he works hard and has fun," she said. "I was in Paris promoting my new album, Kiss, for three days with no time off. So I went out at four in the morning to go explore the entire city. I try to make moments happen that feel very special and memorable because that's exactly how Justin does it."

Justin Timberlake's To Perform At The Grammys, First Time In Four Years

Justin Timberlake Grammy Awards Elton John Rihanna Taylor Swift

Justin Timberlake is back with a new single 'Suit & Tie' and an album on the way named 20/20 Experience, as well as appearing at a pre-Superbowl show this weekend the Grammy organisers have also announced that JT will be performing at the 55th Annual Grammy Awards on February 10th, reports MTV.

The awards are always a show not to miss and with his first live television performance in years, and his first performance at the Grammys for 4 years, this one is bound not to disappoint either. Everyone is hoping that the ex-N*Sync man will perform some teaser tracks from the upcoming album. Also taking to the stage during the evening will be nominees Miranda Lambert, Dierks Bentley, Taylor Swift, Carrie Underwood, Mumford & Sons and FUN.

Timberlake isn't actually nominated for anything this time around but he's already won 6 in his career so far. Other nominees for the year include The Black Keys, Lumineers, Rihanna, Jack White, Frank Ocean, Jay-Z, and Kanye West. There'll also be a very special duet performance from Elton John and Ed Sheeran. With that kind of list JT is just the icing on the cake. The Grammy Awards takes place on February 10th, and JT's new album is out on March 19th.

Only A Few Hours Until The Grammy Nominations Concert: Let's Preview.

Taylor Swift LL Cool J Ne-Yo One Direction Grammy Awards

The Grammy nominations concert does more than just tell us who's in line for an award come 2013, it's a chance to catch the hottest acts performing on stage. It's more than just a nominations show; it's a warm up.

LL Cool J and Taylor Swift will be hosting affairs. An unlikely match you might say, but they've proved their on stage chemistry by working well together in an ad for the Grammys earlier on in the year. All eyes will be on One Direction, as their name being called out will mean more than a Grammy, but a public coming together of Harry Styles and Swift, who have been rumoured to be dating recently. Depending on how the next few months go, it could be explosive, awkward or both - either way it'll make for great television. Maroon 5, Ne-Yo, and The Who will all be performing, and can boast Grammy pedigree in their ranks, with nominations, wins and past live shows amongst the pack.

Ne-Yo spoke with MTV News last weekend, saying that he might use the event to bring up some album-title drama with Swift. "I can honestly say that even though I don't believe in accident or coincidence, it is completely coincidental that we keep winding up in the same places, even that our album titles are similar," he said about his album named R.E.D. and hers named Red. "It's completely coincidental, but like I said, I don't believe in coincidence, so it's got to mean something." Tune in to CBS at 10 p.m. ET/PT to see what goes down.
