Music shows are supposed to be spectacular and memorable events, and for Green Day's audience at Mad Cool Festival in Spain this weekend it was certainly a night they will never forget. The concert was a disaster from the start when witnesses saw an acrobat performer tragically fall to his death.

Green Day were headlining the event in Madrid on Saturday night (July 8th 2017) in front of 35,000 people when an acrobatic artist - who has now been identified as 42-year-old Pedro Aunion Monroy - dropped at least 100 feet to the ground only minutes before the band were due to go on stage, dying almost instantly from his injuries.

This year's inductees into the Rock'n'Roll Hall of Fame, Joan Jett and Ringo Starr, definitely fall within the "about time" category. And they aren't the only ones. The 2015 inductees also include the cool kids of rock, Green Day. 

Green Day were a bit overwhelmed on the night of their induction.

The Bay area trio also played a pretty intense show on the night of their induction, reminding everyone why they were the band to take punk rock to the masses back in the 1990s. From the opening power chords of American Idiot, Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt and Tre Cool had the crowud at Cleveland's Public Hall up on their feet and dancing along to the tune of 90s nostalgia.

Billie Joe Armstrong's latest musical is set to appear off Broadway. The 43-year-old Green Day frontman penned These Paper Bullets! last year and it debuted at the Yale Repertory Theatre. These Paper Bullets! will be on at the off-Broadway Atlantic Theatre in November, coinciding with the theatre company's 30th anniversary.

Billie Joe Armstrong's musical is heading to New York and will be produced by an off-Broadway theatre company.

Esteemed musical institution the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has announced its class of 2015. The six musical acts to be inducted are: Green Day; Bill Withers; Joan Jett & The Blackhearts; Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble; Lou Reed; and the Paul Butterfield Blues Band.

Former Beatle Ringo Starr will be honoured during the ceremony with an award for musical excellence, and ‘50s R&B quintet The “5” Royales will also be recognised for their influence on early pop music.

The longtime touring guitarist from punk rock band Green Day, Jason White, has been diagnosed with tonsil cancer, so the group have therefore asked their fans to send him some "positive healing vibes."

White's illness was announced via a Facebook message posted on Friday (Dec 5th), which read, "We have some news to report regarding our brother Jason White, and wanted you to hear it from us before word spread."

Every year, festival campsites buzz with rumours of ‘favourite bands playing secret slots’ and unlikely artists playing impromptu performances. As an event with a rich history of putting on secret shows, this month’s Reading and Leeds festival proves to be no exception.

Last week, one Reading and Leeds organiser revealed he’d been approached by several artists (some of whom he described as ‘arena acts’) all wanting to play at the festival. To the delight and frustration of many fans, he confirmed that one big-name act has since been confirmed to perform a secret slot - but wouldn’t reveal who.

Macaulay Culkin and his pizza-themed Velvet Underground cover band, the imaginatively named The Pizza Underground, suffered the chagrin of a disgruntled crown in Nottingham during the city’s annual Dot To Dot festival. Culkin, who was by this point half-way through a European tour, beat a hasty retreat from the stage after being drenched with beer.

Macaulay isn't the first star to feel the audience's ire.

It proved, that in this age of disconnect, where audience members can turn to the comforts of smart phones during lacklustre gigs, music fans are still eager to openly voice their displeasure. Only a few days later, Culkin announced the cancellation of the remaining tour dates. He has not openly cited the event as the primary motivation for such a cancellation, but it seems all too obvious that the hostile reception he received had severely impacted the decision. Macaulay is far from being the first to suffer the wrath of an embittered crowd and few are safe from the ramifications of a poor or ill-judged performance. Popular UK rock magazine Kerrang! has been known for the occasional covermount CD packaged with one of their issues, and they’ll be adding to that list next month. On June 11, Kerrang! will be releasing a tribute album for Green Day’s iconic record, American Idiot, to celebrate its ten year anniversary. According to a flyer tweeted out by Kerrang! editor James McMahon, the track listing is set to feature bands like You Me at Six, Falling In Reverse, Frank Iero, and 5 Seconds of Summer. Additionally, extra covers from Green Day’s Dookie will be included as well. No confirmed tracks have been announced yet, but the thought of 5 Seconds of Summer possibly covering “Boulevard of Broken Dreams” while You Me at Six takes on “Jesus of Suburbia” is enough to have us anticipate the release immensely.

In the meantime, which covers from pop-punk bands have been the best? You’ve got labels like Fearless Records releasing cover compilations every year, and bands have even made their own cover full-lengths. If anything’s for certain, there’s never a shortage of a band’s rendition of the current hit pop song or a classic oldie, but no matter the genre, they’re always looking to put their own spin on it to make it theirs. In some cases, the covers actually turn out better than the original.

Adly Syairi Ramly loves Lego and he also has pretty good taste in music too. After collecting Lego since 2011 he came up with the fantastic idea of combining his two major passions as the results are pretty epic. Nothing else was used to create the models, it’s just simple Lego figures given a rock and roll makeover. The pictures were taken on an iPhone 5 with no desktop editing. Pretty impressive indeed.

Alanis Morissette is looking to bring her hit 1995 album Jagged Little Pill to the world of musical theatre, with the singer apparently working on the script for a musical adaption of the hit album. The singer and songwriter is working on a stage production, also set to be called Jagged Little Pill, that will contain some of the album's most famous songs, as well as some of her other material and some new songs made specifically for the show.

According to Playbill.com, Alanis' stage show will be given a 2014 workshop production and it will include the songs 'You Oughta Know,' 'Hand in My Pocket,' 'Ironic' and 'You Learn,' in addition to a collection of other songs, both new and from her existing catalogue.

Tony and Pulitzer Prize winning composer Tom Kitt, who worked on the stage adaption of Green Day's American Idiot, will write the orchestrated portions of the songs and provide new arrangements for the tracks so they translate better on to the stage. Vivek J. Tiwary, who also worked on American Idiot, will produce alongside Arvind Ethan David. No director or arrival date for the show has been announced.

Singer Robbie Williams has been left reeling after BBC Radio 1 personality Nick Grimshaw said that he and his music were "not relevant" to the stations target audience and failed to put the pop star's number one single 'Candy' on its playlist last year.

Leeds Festival 2013 may not have brought with it the best weather of the year, with torrential downpours and heavy flooding putting a damper (pardon the pun) on everyone's camping weekend, but the line-up was enough to put a smile on everyone's mud spattered face!

Biffy Clyro drew in a rapturous audience on the Friday and Green Day had a smaller but dedicated audience on Saturday, but that was nothing compared to Eminem's fantastic closing performance which drew the biggest audience of the whole weekend. Other bands had a few surprises up their sleeves, with Fall Out Boy managing to get Foxes up on stage to perform their collaborative track 'Just One Yesterday' (Pete Wentz' favourite song from their new album) and The Lumineers taking crowd participation to a new level by playing in the middle of their audience.

It may be nearing the end of the summer but Leeds and Reading Festival 2013 goers don't have much to worry about in terms of the unpredictable English weather this weekend (August 23rd - 25th).

The Met Office website has suggested some okay weather for Friday and Saturday with information still to come for Sunday. According to them, Leeds can expect temperatures going up to 23 degrees on Friday though mostly accompanied by clouds, while the following day seems to be a little cooler with a good chance of rain for most of the day before clearing up towards the evening. As for Reading, you lucky Southerners; you can expect rather a sunny morning and temperatures of possibly 25 degrees on the first day, though Saturday in Reading will perhaps also see some spots of rain before the evening approaches.

BBC Weather appears to be more optimistic, seeing 24 degree temperatures in Leeds and 26 in Reading on the Friday, though it looks mildly wet for most of the day on Saturday in Leeds and fairly bright in Reading. Sunday could be the nicest day of the weekend as campers emerge from their tents with their penultimate hangovers to find it brightening up in Leeds at 25 degrees and even reaching 27 in Reading. Other sources suggest similar forecasts, though there have been suggestions of a little rain on the Friday; possibly not disposable raincoat and heavy-duty wellies style weather, however.

A US court has ruled that rock band Green Day are not liable for using a street artist's work in the concerts visuals for their song 'East Jesus Nowhere' during 2009. Dereck Seltzer tried to sue the group for using his 'Scream Icon' piece without his permission.

The return of Green Day was stunted by the very public breakdown of Billie Joe Armstrong, after the punk legend was admitted to rehab following his onstage rant at the iHeartRadio Music Festival last September.

So when the Basket Case singers were announced to play SXSW, naturally, fans of the band were ecstatic at the idea of finally getting their beloved punk rockers back once again. And they are back, emphatically so. Billboard’s review of their triumphant return read: “It quickly became clear that the group was as ferocious and, occasionally, funny – and certainly as fun -- as ever. As the touring quintet tore into "99 Revolutions," one of eight songs from last year's trilogy, Armstrong commanded everyone in the theater to get off their (expletive) (expletives) and "go crazy." "This ain't no f***ing café!" Marking their homecoming to prominence, the SXSW Film Festival also premiered two new Green Day documentaries, "Broadway Idiot" and "Cuatro!" making this the perfect festival to stage a comeback.

250 lucky competition winners will get the chance to see Prince perform with a 21-piece band at the SXSW closing party this week. The legendary singer has been confirmed as a performer for one of the Texas' festival's closing shows, before an intimate crowd of contest winners, reports The Guardian.

Electronics giant Samsung will fund Prince's SXSW debut show, in the same way it bankrolled Kanye West's gig at a launch event in 2012. To be eligible for a ticket for the concert on Saturday (March 16, 2013), fans must be either SXSW badge-holders or owners of a Samsung Galaxy phone. The room at La Zona Rosa will be strictly limited to just 250 people, where Prince will perform a career-spanning set with his band. "Prince is a legend and true creative and musical genius who has been pushing the boundaries of music for more than 35 years," Todd Pendleton, Samsung's chief marketing officer, told Mashable. "Having Prince in Austin at his first SXSW show will truly be a one-night-only experience that our Samsung Galaxy owners and friends will remember for years to come."

It's certainly SXSW's biggest draw of the week, though the festival in Austin, Texas, is also scheduled to include performances from the likes of Green Day, Depeche Mode, Justin Timberlake and Dave Grohl's all-star group the Sound City Players.

Punk rockers Green Day will make their debut at Austin festival SXSW on March 15, 2013, some twenty-five years after first forming in Vallejo, California. The group - who released three albums last year - will screen two movies at the Paramount Theater before playing a set as part of the ACL Live series later that evening, at the Moody Theater.

One of the films - Broadway Idiot - will have its world premiere at the festival. The documentary follows frontman Billie Joe Armstrong's trials and tribulations during the adaptation of American Idiot as a Broadway musical. The second movie, ¡Cuatro!, chronicles Green Day's recording of their recent ¡Uno!, ¡Dos! and ¡Tré! trilogy - a process that preceded an arduous touring schedule, which ultimately landed Armstrong in rehabilitation for substance abuse. The band were forced to cancel and postpone shows until the 41-year-old completed his recovery though, refreshed and ready to rock, Armstrong, Mike Dirnt and Tré Cool resume their tour on March 28 in Chicago. The North American jaunt passes through Pittsburgh, New York, Philadelphia and other cities before heading to Italy, Germany, the United Kingdom, Poland and Russia.  

The Green Day movies are open to SXSW ticketholders with Film, Gold & Platinum badges, Music Press Badge Holders, Film Wristband holders and Idiot Club winners. Those hoping to check out the live performance at the Moody Theater will require SXSW Music & Platinum badges or SXSW Showcasing Artists and Music Wristbands.

“It’s pretty bad.” These were the words spoken to Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong, by his wife, the morning after he fell off the wagon in a bad way and smashed his guitar up in a rage during last year’s iHeartRadio concert. In a recent interview with Rolling Stone (reported by Reuters), Billie Joe explains how his manager sent him straight to rehab after the incident, forcing the band to cancel the tour that they had planned to support the release of their three albums, Uno! Dos! and Tre!

Shortly after the incident in Las Vegas last September (2012), Billie Joe rang his manager, who told him in no uncertain terms “You're getting on a plane, going back to Oakland and going into rehab immediately.” Armstrong also explained just how bad his addiction problems had become. “I couldn't predict where I was going to end up at the end of the night,” said the 41 year old punk rocker. “I'd wake up in a strange house on a couch. I wouldn't remember how. It was a complete blackout.” Armstrong only remembered “tiny things” from his onstage rant at the Vegas gig.

Now that Billie Joe has completed his rehab treatment, the five time Grammy-winning band are due to go back on tour on March 28, starting in Chicago. Armstrong thanked Green Day’s fans for their support during his treatment.
