The CBS entertainment chairman simply said, "there were elements on the pilot that didn't work out," when explaining why the television network didn't order the new sitcom.
CBS shocked the television world on Wednesday (May 14th) when they passed on the much talked about sitcom, 'How I Met Your Dad.'
A pilot of the show, a spinoff of the hugely successful 'How I Met Your Mother,' was ordered by CBS last November (2013), but it creators, Carter Bays and Craig Thomas, along with Emily Spivey, failed to captivate the network's executives.
But after casting names like Meg Ryan and Greta Gerwig, why did the pilot not get picked up?
The new concept seemed entertaining enough. Gerwig is playing Sally, the equivalent of Ted Mosby, who is a sweet and free-spirited lady in her late twenties living in New York City, whose biggest issue is that she's afraid of growing up.
However, unlike Ted in the original, Sally is already married at the beginning of the show, but while her friends help find the father of her children, Sally realizes her current marriage isn't working out and it quickly begins to end.
Meg would provide the voice of 'future Sally,' a very similar role to the one Bob Saget played in the original 'HIMYM' series. He provided the future voice of Josh Radnor's character, Ted.
CBS entertainment chairman Nina Tassler spoke with reporters before the network's presentation to media buyers in New York later on Wednesday to explain CBS' decision, The Los Angeles Times reports.
"There were elements on the pilot that didn't work out," Tassler said. "We tried to work out about redoing the pilot. That's not happening right now. Sometimes you run into these kind of issues and you hope they can resolve themselves in that time frame."
Tassler said the pilot "didn't work out"
The sitcom is now being shopped by 20th Century Fox (its producer), and there are reportedly already preliminary discussions underway.

"I'm heartsick; we loved this brand and we love the producers but it didn't work out," Tassler said, explaining they felt "repiloting was in the best interest of protecting the creative elements of the show."
