Canadian electronic artist Grimes has opened up about her own opinions of the male dominated music production industry with regards to Kesha's ongoing legal situation with Dr. Luke. As it turns out, sexual discrimination is not a circumstance she's entirely unfamiliar with.

GrimesGrimes reveals what goes on in the studio

Asked about her thoughts on Kesha's lawsuit against Dr. Luke for alleged rape and abuse, Grimes - aka Claire Boucher - confesses that she's had her own struggles with male producers. 'I don't know enough about the specifics of that situation, because it seems very complicated', she told Rolling Stone in an interview. 'But I will say that I've been in numerous situations where male producers would literally be like, 'We won't finish the song unless you come back to my hotel room'. If I was younger or in a more financially desperate situation, maybe I would have done that.'

The confession comes in light of the ongoing battle between Kesha and Dr. Luke, with the latter refusing to free the former from her contract with his record label Kemosabe Records. In February this year, a judge denied Kesha's request for a preliminary injunction so that she could record music elsewhere, without having to return to the studio with Luke, who she claimed had subjected her to sexual, physical, verbal and emotional abuse including rape and shaming her into bulimia.

Fans and peers rallied around her in support of this devastating news, including Demi Lovato, Taylor Swift, Jack Antonoff, Zedd, Lena Dunham, Kelly Clarkson, Lady GaGa, Iggy Azalea, Ariana Grande, Lorde, Reese Witherspoon, Anne Hathaway, Adele and Fiona Apple.

More: Kesha's appeal is thrown out of court

Since the backlash over the court ruling, Dr. Luke has vehemently denied such allegations. 'I didn't rape Kesha and I have never had sex with her', he said in a statement on Twitter. Indeed, no such evidence for the accusations against him has been presented in court. However, Kelly Clarkson has revealed that she's suffered problems of her own with the producer, claiming that she was 'blackmailed' by her label into working with him and that 'he will just lie to people' and 'he's kind of difficult to work with'.

Grimes also commented on the struggles female producers themselves have in the music industry. 'I don't think there are few female producers because women aren't interested', she said. 'It's difficult for women to get in. It's a pretty hostile environment.'
