Gwyneth Paltrow (born September 27, 1972) is an Academy Award, Golden Globe- and double Screen Actors Guild Award-winning American actress, as well as a chart-topping singer in Australia.
She is perhaps best known for her roles in the films Se7en, Shakespeare in Love, Iron Man and The Talented Mr. Ripley.
She is married to Coldplay lead singer Chris Martin and has had two children with him.
Early career: 1990-1994
Paltrow made her professional stage debut in 1990 and her debut on film in 1991, in Shout. Later that year, she played the role as the young Wendy in Steven Spielberg's Hook (1991).
Before her breakthrough Gwyneth Paltrow appeared in Malice and also Flesh and Bone.
Paltrow's breakthrough came when she starred in Se7en (1995), opposite Brad Pitt and Morgan Freeman. The film was hugely successful commercially and critically.
This was bolstered in 1996 when she starred in Emma, where she received positive critical acclaim, particularly in the UK for her impressive English accent.
Two years later, Gwyneth Paltrow starred in Shakespeare in Love. The film earned more than $100 million in box office receipts and numerous awards. This included Paltrow receiving the award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role and also an Oscar for Best Actress in a Leading Role.
The year after Gwyneth Paltrow starred in A Perfect Murder and in 2000, in The Talented Mr. Ripley.
Recent Years: 2000-Present
Until recently, Paltrow has had a relatively low-profile, yet steady, film career with a few critically acclaimed film roles, including Proof (2005) and The Royal Tenenbaums (2001).
Audiences got their first taste of Paltrow's singing ability with the 2000 release of Duets, with singer Huey Lewis. Towards the end of the film they perform a cover version of Smokey Robinson's "Cruisin'" which would eventually be released and go to number one in Australia, while Gwyneth Paltrow's rendition of the Kim Carnes classic "Bette Davis Eyes" reached number three.
Since winning the Academy Award for Best Actress for Shakespeare in Love, Paltrow's film success has been less noteworthy, including several cameo roles, such as her appearance in Love and Other Disasters, Running with Scissors and Infamous.
Despite some low key appearances Paltrow's leading role in 2008's Iron Man may have restored her superstar status.
Paltrow gave birth to their first child, a daughter named Apple Blythe Alison Martin, five months later, on May 14, 2004, in London.
Her second child, Moses Bruce Anthony Martin, was born on April 8, 2006 in New York City. Her son's first name was explained as the song that her husband wrote for her shortly before their secret wedding, called "Moses".
Paltrow is good friends with Madonna and they even share the same personal trainer.
On September 27, 2006 (her 34th birthday) Gwyneth sang a duet with rap artist Jay-Z during his concert at the Royal Albert Hall. She sang the chorus for Song Cry.
Paltrow is a descendent of a famous 17th century Polish rabbi, David HaLevi Segal of Krakow.
Actor Simon Pegg is Paltrow's daughter's Godfather.
Gwyneth Paltrow has accused Weinstein of sexual harassment and has been criticised by her response after the event
Actress Gwyneth Paltrow is one of many famous Hollywood names who has revealed herself as an alleged victim of movie producer Harvey Weinstein as he continues to be confronted by allegations of sexual abuse and harassment and rape.
Blythe Danner has come to her daughter's defence
The Iron Man star and founder of Goop website claimed Weinstein had targeted her when she was just 22 years old by putting his hands on her suggestively and trying to lead her into his bedroom for a 'joint massage' after a meeting in his suite at The Peninsula Hotel, which had been set up by her agents at CAA.
In the wake of the mounting allegations of sexual misconduct being levelled at Weinstein, BAFTA has announced that it has suspended his membership.
The British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) has taken the step of suspending Harvey Weinstein’s membership, in the wake of mounting allegations of sexual assault and harassment against the movie mogul going back decades.
High-profile female stars have come forward in recent days alleging instances where Weinstein acted inappropriately toward them, including Angelina Jolie, Ashley Judd and Gwyneth Paltrow, following an explosive expose piece in the New York Times last Thursday (October 5th) late last week. A report in the New Yorker this week also detailed testimony from three other actresses, all alleging historical cases of sexual harassment.
Making the move via a press release on Wednesday (October 11th), BAFTA said that while they have “previously been a beneficiary of Mr Weinstein's support for its charitable work, it considers the reported alleged behaviour completely unacceptable and incompatible with BAFTA's values."

Paltrow spoke about expanding her website Goop, despite recent controversies over factual accuracy.
In the face of recent criticism of her Goop lifestyle website, Gwyneth Paltrow has come out swinging against her detractors, telling them they should “bring their A-game” if they’re going to try to bring her down.
The 44 year old actress, who set up her Goop site offering health and lifestyle tips back in 2008, sat down with The Hollywood Reporter earlier this week and discussed the future of her site – and had a strong message for her critics.
“I'm interested in criticism based on fact, not on projections,” Paltrow said garrulously. “If you want to f*** with me, bring your A-game.”

Advertising watchdog group Truth In Advertising called for an investigation into how Goop sells its products.
It’s frequently been the subject of ridicule on social media, but Gwyneth Paltrow’s infamous health and lifestyle site Goop is possibly in rather more significant trouble after an America advertising watchdog filed complaints over how the site is marketing products.
TINA.org (Truth In Advertising), a Connecticut-based non-profit organisation that describes itself as “dedicated to empowering consumers to protect themselves and one another against false advertising and deceptive marketing”, has filed a complaint with two California district attorneys, following an investigation that found that Goop made deceptive health claims to promote products on its site.
Using the results of that investigation, TINA cites 51 examples of Goop advertising own-brand and third-party products with the explicit or implicit benefits that those products would “treat, cure, prevent, alleviate the symptoms of, or reduce the risk of developing a number of ailments”.
Actress Gwyneth Paltro seen entering a party hosted by ELLE magazine - Madrid, Spain - Wednesday 26th October 2016
There's a lot more to this actress than we knew.
Gwyneth Paltrow often finds herself under attack for the advice and products featured on her Goop website, given that you have to be as rich as her to be able to afford the lifestyle the site endorses, but there's a lot about her beauty and health regime that may surprise you.
Gwyneth Paltrow talks health and beauty
In an interview with the New York Times, she opened up about her craziest beauty endeavours; and trust us, living in California seems to present limitless amounts of therapies, treatments and products. She also had a few interesting points to note about her everyday make-up, hair and skincare.
The couple, who married in 2013, announced their split last year.
Coldplay frontman Chris Martin has opened up about life after his split from wife Gwyneth Paltrow. The 38 year old appeared on Australia's 2DayFM on Monday and addressed the break-up for the first time, saying he feels ‘grateful to be alive.’
Chris Martin has spoken for the first time about his split from Gwyneth Paltrow.
"I went through some big changes... everyone knows about them,” Martin said. "[I was able to] figure out where I've gone wrong in my way of looking at the world. A few years ago I was in a low place in my life and was feeling kind of down and confused.”
Gwyneth Paltrow discussed the gender pay gap in Hollywood.
Gwyneth Paltrow is adding her name to the growing list of female (and many male) actors who are appalled with the substantial gender pay gap in Hollywood. The 43-year-old Mortdecai actor and Goop founder hit back at the film industry for its inequality and sexism during a recent interview. She also used one very prominent example to prove her point.

Speaking about THAT article to Fast Company, the American actress explained that it was her Goop editorial director who decided to use the phrase.
After popularising the rather ludicrous phrase “conscious uncoupling” as a euphemism for her divorce from her ex-husband, Gwyneth Paltrow has claimed in a new interview that it wasn’t actually her who coined the term.
The 42 year old actress explained to Fast Company that it was the editorial director of her lifestyle site Goop, Elise Loehnen, who came up with the phrase in a headline and didn’t warn her in advance of the article going live.
