Gwyneth Paltrow often finds herself under attack for the advice and products featured on her Goop website, given that you have to be as rich as her to be able to afford the lifestyle the site endorses, but there's a lot about her beauty and health regime that may surprise you.

In an interview with the New York Times, she opened up about her craziest beauty endeavours; and trust us, living in California seems to present limitless amounts of therapies, treatments and products. She also had a few interesting points to note about her everyday make-up, hair and skincare.

1. Apitherapy - California is the place to go if you want to try the latest crazy beauty treatment, and Paltrow is always brave enough to try the next big thing no matter how painful. 'I've been stung by bees', she confessed. 'It's a thousands of years old treatment called apitherapy. People use it to get rid of inflammation and scarring... But, man, it's painful.' She also admitted to being a fan of acupuncture, but admitted she's yet to try newer fads like cryotherapy and sound baths.

2. Make-up - With people like the Kardashians popularizing various make-up techniques like over-lining, strobing and contouring, you might think that's where it's at. But Paltrow has a more relaxed view on cosmetics. 'I generally don't wear that much make-up', she said. 'I often go out with just mascara and a little cheek.' In fact, she learns the most about make-up from her 12-year-old daughter Apple. 'I don't use bronzer. You need technique to use bronzer, highlighter and BB cream, all these things my daughter tells me about. She watches YouTube... She loves experimenting. I obviously don't let her out of the house with a full face. But I think she's going to be way more into beauty than I am.'

3. Oil - At one stage, everyone was against the use of oily substances on the skin, believing it would always lead to acne and other dermatological problems. But those rumours never bothered Paltrow. 'I love serums and face oils and body oils. I'm a real oil kind of girl', she said. There's a myth that oil is not good for your skin. I don't believe in that at all.'

4. Fragrance - Did you know that there are often no regulations on perfumes? Paltrow has been advised to steer clear for this reason, but she's yet to give up her precious fragrances. 'My head of beauty said you have to stop wearing fragrance because it's unregulated and all that', she said. 'We're having a fight about it.' Essential oil substitutes are not an option for Paltrow either. 'The problem is, I think essential oils haven't mastered the art of being subtle and layered.'

5. Hair - A lot goes into Gwyneth Paltrow's 'do given that she regularly bleaches it, which can cause a lot of damage. But she reveals that Japanese haircare brands are her favourite to keep her locks in tip-top condition. 'I have dry, damaged, bleached hair, and they work for me', she said. But even this clean-eating green-living Hollywood star finds it difficult to stick to natural products: 'That's the one area I can't find a nontoxic product that works well.'

6. Boxing - When it comes to exercising, who knew this slender, peace loving star loves to blow off steam in the ring? 'I do boxing occasionally', she admitted. 'I have a membership at a little boxing gym. It's pretty down and dirty.'

7. Diet - While she's well-known to be all about organic, nutritious cooking, Paltrow still insists that junk food should still make an appearance in your diet. 'It's great to eat nutrient-dense organic food, if you can', she said, adding, 'It's also really great to drink a vodka and have French fries.'
