Hailee Steinfeld is to join the cast of Pitch Perfect 2, the college singing drama sequel set for release in May next year. The 17 year-old Ender's Game star will be one of the few high profile additions to the cast and she'll star alongside the returning Anna Kendrick, Rebel Wilson, and Brittany Snow, according to Variety.

Steinfeld, who was nominated for an Oscar for her role in True Grit, is best known for her roles in sci-fi Ender's Game and last year's Shakespeare adaptation, Romeo and Juliet, opposite Douglas Booth.

Though plot details for Pitch Perfect 2 have not yet been released, it is assumed that she will join the acapella choir core cast and will therefore be showcasing her singing talents.

The news highlights a busy year for the young actress: having wrapped Barely Lethal and Term Life, she last appeared in 3 Days to Kill and can be seen next in the John Carney picture, Begin Again, with Keira Knightley and Mark Ruffalo.

The sequel will also see the return of director Elizabeth Banks, who co-starred and helmed the original, along with scriptwriter Kay Cannon, who wrote the script for the original movie. With the cast all finally signed up and a script to follow, the movie will start shooting this month, a full year before it is released next May.

The original movie saw Kendrick's music-loving character Beca coerced into joining her college's all-female acapella group, the Barden Bellas, who end up competing for a fiercely fought regional title. Its soundtrack along sold more than a million units, warranting calls for a song-filled sequel that have been heeded.
