The singer joined Keith Urban and Jennifer Lopez for the final season of the show earlier this year (16), but he still thinks the programme will return after becoming a big ratings hit.

However, if Idol does come back, don't expect him to be among the judges.

"It was hard for me because I'm not a judgmental person, but they asked me to judge," he tells WENN. "That's (at) the centre of what I had coming up as a kid; people were just judging me all the time.

"It's harsh, but a brutal, honest way of talking to people. I like more of a mentorship dialogue kind of thing. Judging is a little tough. It would be tough with this show now to get involved if it comes back.

"It was still getting, like, 12 million viewers, so if I owned it, I would bring it back!"
