‘Stars In Their Eyes’ is a fondly remembered talent show that ran originally in Britain from 1990 to 2006. As ever, members of the public will enter the show and be transformed into their favourite pop stars by top make-up and wardrobe artists, before doing a karaoke version of one of their songs.

The original run of series was hosted by Leslie Crowther, Matthew Kelly, Davina McCall and Cat Deeley. Broadcast dates for the revamped show will be released in the coming months. It’s not the first time in the recent past that ITV have reactivated one of their old primetime shows. ‘Celebrity Squares’, ‘Catchphrase’ and ‘Surprise Surprise’ have all received up-to-date makeovers.

On a celebrity version of the show, Hill himself appeared as The Smiths’ frontman Morrissey. He spoke about this as one of the highlights of his light entertainment career, and said about his appointment as the new host "Imagine the smile bought to my lips when I was asked by ITV at a secret breakfast meeting in a top London hotel to take the reigns of this Rolls-Royce of pop-impression talent shows and walk in the footsteps of showbiz giants Crowther, Kelly and Deeley! And on ITV too! Dust off the wigs and sequins - I'm coming home!"

Elaine Bedell, ITV’s director of entertainment and comedy, said "It's so good to have Harry back in the heart of ITV peak time, bringing his own unique, brilliantly comic flair to such a popular show. We love working with Harry at ITV, and we're also developing further formats with the BAFTA award-winning comedian."
