The Laurence Olivier Awards were a sweeping success for Jk Rowling's play 'Harry Potter and the Cursed Child' which won no less than nine prizes at this year's ceremony - that's seven more than the other big winners of the night and puts them into the record books.

'Harry Potter and the Cursed Child' made history last night (April 9th 2017) by beating 'Matilda the Musical' and 'The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time' as the most awarded show in the Laurence Olivier Awards' 41 year history.

Proving herself once again to be the queen of clapbacks, J.K. Rowling has been on Twitter shutting down former fans who have been threatening to burn their Harry Potter merchandise.

A number of irate Trump supporters who disagreed with her views about the new American president’s controversial laws took to social media to air their grievances, only to be shot down in entertaining fashion by the 51 year old author.

The pick of the bunch was one person, who wrote: “@Jk_rowling glad I caught this article on yahoo. I will now burn your books and movies too.”

As 'Harry Potter and the Cursed Child' opens for previews at London's Palace Theatre, Jk Rowling once again addresses the onslaught of racially-charged criticism she has endured for giving her blessing for a black actress to portray an older Hermione in the play, despite the fact that she was white in the movies.

Such a progressive move was always going to be controversial; Rowling tried to counter the attacks after it was announced that Olivier award winner Noma Dumezweni would be playing Hermione Granger-Weasley by simply reminding fans that her colour was never defined in the novels. 'Canon: brown eyes, frizzy hair and very clever. White skin was never specified. Rowling loves black Hermione', she wrote on Twitter. However, now she's addressing the slew of arguments she's received since making the comment.

Fans are torn between feeling highly amused and unabashedly thrilled at the new images of Draco Malfoy for upcoming play 'Harry Potter and the Cursed Child'. Alex Price from 'Penny Dreadful' will be playing the Slytherin, and he looks pretty unforgettable in a long, glossy ponytail.

If you hadn't guessed, Draco pretty much takes after his father Lucius with the hair, the icy scowl and the ridiculously well-tailored wizard's robes for 'Harry Potter and the Cursed Child'. And to make things even better, his son Scorpius Malfoy - played by Anthony Boyle - is not far off what Draco looked like as a Hogwarts student (played by Tom Felton), though slightly less slick.

The theory, posted by Tumblr user marauders4evr is definitely very believable based on what we know about the wizarding world, but it might also bring a tear to your eye.

For those who don’t know, Jk Rowling once stated that there were around 1,000 students at Hogwarts during Harry’s time. Now here comes the math. We also know there were seven years, which means there should be about 143 students per year.

It might have been a moment that melted the hearts of Harry Potter fans, but actor Rupert Grint doesn't have fond memories of his on-screen kiss with Emma Watson. Grint’s character Ron Weasley finally got together with Hermione Granger in the final instalment of the franchise, but for the two actors it was all just very awkward.

Rupert Grint does not remember his kiss with Emma Watson fondly.

Speaking to People during the 'Celebration of Harry Potter' event in Orlando over the weekend, Grint opened up on the famous scene. "I never look back at that scene," Grint said. "I've known Emma since she was literally 9 years old and we had this very brother-sister relationship.”

J.K. Rowling does not believe Palestine’s cultural boycott of its neighbouring state Israel will “further peace”. Rowling was forced to further address these complex diplomatic relations after some of those in the pro-Palestinian camp used the Harry Potter characters she had created to make points about the boycott.

Harry Potter fans have been warned not to trespass over the Glenfinnan Viaduct in the Scottish Highlands. The local police have issued a warning about the dangers of trespassing on to railway lines. Their warning comes after a number of tourists were spotted taking pictures from the viaduct over the summer.

Rowling introduced readers to Potter Jr. in the epilogue of the final book of the series ‘Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows’, a brief section set 19 years after the events of the book in which Harry and Ginny are a couple with three children, the eldest of which is James Sirius Potter – named in honour of Harry’s own father James and godfather Sirius Black.

Director Chris Columbus has revealed that he would like to make a series of sequels to the Harry Potter movies. He’s “fascinated” by the plotlines and back stories of the main characters, such as Hermione Grainger, Ron Weasley and the boy wizard himself, and would like to explore what happened to them after the books finished.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, the 56 year old filmmaker who directed the first three official Harry Potter movies (Sorcerer’s Stone, Chamber of Secrets and Prisoner of Azkaban) said he wants to fill in the 19 year gap between the final book and its epilogue. Columbus is “fascinated about what happened to them” and wants to tell their stories.
