A re-boot of the beloved 1980s animated TV series, 'Jem and the Holograms' hits the big screen in a live action adventure directed by Jon M. Chu, who opens up about the concept of the movie with cartoon creator Christy Marx and stars Aubrey Peeples, Hayley Kiyoko and Molly Ringwald.

A year and a half ago, a young girl lost her mother. She misses her every day, and continues to relate the stories of her life to her mother, hoping that she can still be heard. The problem is, if you make contact with one ghost, all the ghosts can hear you. When Quinn (Stefanie Scott) becomes the subject of attention for a particularly harrowing phantom, Elise Rainier (Lin Shaye) is forced to reluctantly agree to use her powers of communicating with the dead, with the hopes of freeing Quinn from the creature that has now possessed her.

Jerrica Benton lives an uneventful life with her sister Kimber, Aunt Bailey and her foster daughters - but all that's about to change. Jerrica has a secret talent for music, and Kimber doesn't want her to keep it to herself. She secretly films her playing a song and uploads it on to the internet where it goes viral. Pretty soon, they are recruited by the biggest record company in the world who want to turn them, in turn, into the biggest pop group in the world. That means changing their image, their personalities and even their names as Jerrica and her sisters become Jem and the Holograms. The world of fans and touring might be amazing, but pretty soon tensions within the group start to rise as fame causes them to lose sight of who they really are underneath the facade.

Jem! The cast is contagious, outrageous!
The cast has been finalised for the upcoming music movie Jem and the Holograms; a reboot of the classic '80s kids cartoon about a record exec who moonlights as a pop star. Sharknado star Aubrey Peeples is playing Jem alongside Stefanie Scott ('A.N.T. Farm'), Hayley Kiyoko ('Lemonade Mouth'), and Aurora Perrineau, daughter of actor Harold Perrineau, will play the rest of Jem's band, The Holograms, as Kimber, Aja, and Shana according to THR.

Jon M. Chu will direct, Scooter Braun is producing and Ryan Landels has written the script for the live action adaptation of the colourful and fun-filled musical cartoon which was based on the 1980s Hasbro toy. Instead of having Jem as a record company owner slash pop star, the filmmakers have decided that Jem will be an orphaned teen named Jerrica who becomes an online recording sensation.
