The first official, bona fide, straight from the horse’s mouth, genuine image from Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice has arrived, and it sees Henry Cavill as the caped superhero once more.

He’s standing fully clad in his Superman gear, looking into the camera with a forlorn expression. The whether is pretty terrible; maybe that’s got something to do with it. Or maybe he’s waiting to meet Batman.

The keen fans amongst you will have already noticed that Metropolis probably isn’t the city in the background. No, what we’re looking at is likely director Zak Snyder’s first attempt at Gotham City.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

On Superman, Snyder said: "We've both created this guy and we can push I'm around a little bit. The more time I spend with Henry, the more he's Superman to me."

And on including Batman in the sequel to Man of Steel, Snyder said: "I was in no rush to put Batman in the movie, but on the other hand it seemed organic the way our story was unfolding to start to feather him in."

But those of you thinking this is going to be 2 hours of Batman and Superman kicking 7 shades out of each other, then you might be in for surprise. Snyder couldn’t explain much about their relationship in Dawn of Justice, "but suffice it to say there is a 'v' in between their names". He did explain the "v" instead of "vs." is a way "to keep it from being a straight 'versus' movie, even in the most subtle way."

"You can talk all you want about other superhero movies, but it's Batman and Superman, let's just be honest. I don't know how you get bigger than that,” Snyder says, sounding just as excited as the millions of fans that are waiting – not so patiently – for this film to arrive.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is due for release in the UK on 29 April 2016 and in the US on 6 May 2016.
