The 82 year old will receive the Herbie Hancock Humanitarian Award in recognition of spearheading the production of benefit recordings for African famine relief and victims of Superstorm Sandy, which ravaged America's East Coast in 2012.

Jones will be feted with an all-star jazz tribute, featuring Hancock, Arturo Sandoval, Al Jarreau, George Benson and Dee Dee Bridgewater, among others.

"The fact that, for many years now, he has continued to support, encourage and nurture the younger generation of musical artists, from Michael Jackson, and beyond, is an astounding tribute to his legacy," Hancock tells Rolling Stone. "Now at age 82, Quincy is just getting started."

Jones will be honoured at a gala concert at the Dolby Theater in Hollywood on 15 November (15).
