Howard Stern has vowed to stand by David Arquette as he battles alcoholism.

The 41-year-old actor - who received treatment for alcohol abuse in January 2011 after splitting from his wife Courteney Cox, the mother of his nine-year-old daughter Coco - revealed on 'The Howard Stern Show' that he recently fell off the wagon and Howard says he will always be there for David.

He told E! News: ''My feedback is that I love David Arquette. He's a fantastic guy. If you'd ever get to interview him or know him, he is salt of the earth. One of my favourite people in the world.

''And I trust that David is a grown-up and knows what he needs to do and that's what he conveyed to me. Right now, whatever he's going through, I'm always there for him.''

Although David confessed he has started drinking and smoking marijuana again, he insisted he knows what he is doing.

He said: ''I'm drinking again... I'm a drinker, I drink a lot.

''[I started drinking again because I felt like] I wasn't being that true to myself. I do get out of control [but] I try to keep a cap on it. I'll [also] smoke a little weed.

''Whatever I do, I'm gonna do; I'm gonna go through this journey and figure out my life. I'm a responsible person, I have my daughter three days a week... I'm incredibly responsible. I'm living my life and I'm trying not to hurt people.''
