Production has begun on the follow up to the popular 2014 film, with original cast members Hugh Bonneville, Sally Hawkins, Julie Walters, Jim Broadbent, Peter Capaldi, Madeleine Harris and Samuel Joslin all returning for another slice of Paddington action.

Ben Whishaw will also be back, voicing Paddington himself. Ben stepped into the role after Colin Firth, Hugh’s Bridget Jones’s Diary co-star, decided he wasn’t right for the part.

Hugh, who chose not to rejoin Colin and Renee Zellweger in Bridget Jones’s Baby earlier this year (16), will play local celebrity, Phoenix Buchanan, a vain, charming acting legend whose star has fallen somewhat in recent years.

Brendan will star as Knuckles MCGinty, a notorious safe-cracker and legendary strongman who becomes an unexpected new ally for Paddington.

Paul King is back in the directing chair, and Harry Potter producer David Heyman is also once again lending his talents to production.

"It has been a complete joy to return to the world of Paddington,” Paul said in a statement. “It was such a delight to see his first big screen adventure embraced by audiences around the world, and I couldn’t be more excited about Hugh and Brendan joining the cast to bring his next outing to life. Together, I hope we can make a film worthy of this most exceptional of bears.”

David added of the StudioCanal movie: "I am thrilled to be back in the warm embrace of Paddington Bear, again under the inspired direction of Paul King. And I’m delighted to welcome Hugh and Brendan to our exceptional cast.”

Paddington 2 is slated to be released in November next year (17).
