It’s the end of an era for many who have been there from the beginning of WWE as one of its main stars, Hulk Hogan, has had his contract terminated. Hogan was “The Rock” of his generation, the people’s champion and the epitome of WWE for many years but that has all come to an abrupt, and unseemly, end.

World Wrestling Entertainment Inc. has scrubbed its website of all references to its former hero.

A joint report from The National Enquirer and Radar Online published last week revealed Hogan was on a sex tape, filmed in 2008, using the N-word and calling himself a racist.

While that tape is currently the subject of an invasion of privacy lawsuit brought by Hogan against the website Gawker, there is little good a win in that case will do his former wrestling career.

In a statement, Hogan said: "Eight years ago I used offensive language during a conversation.

"It was unacceptable for me to have used that offensive language; there is no excuse for it and I apoloigse for having done it.... I am disappointed with myself that I used language that is offensive and inconsistent with my own beliefs."
