The acting great's apartment in New York City's famous Dakota building went on the market for approximately $26 million (£16.3 million) in November (14), and a mystery buyer has snapped up the pad for $3 million (£1.9 million) less than the asking price, according to the New York Daily News.

Bacall first purchased the sprawling home in 1961 for $28,000 (£17,500), four years after the death of her partner Humphrey Bogart.

She lived at the property with her second husband Jason Robards, and her children, and remained there until her death in August (14).
