Congratulations, Idina Menzel! Well deserved and probably overdue.
Given that Idina Menzel has been performing on stage and screen for close to two decades, so billing her as a Breakthrough Artist is inaccurate to say the least... but with that said, guess who was honoured with the Breakthrough award at this year’s Billboard honours? Idina Menzel - a breakthrough woman in music in 2014?
"Introducing Idina Menzel...what could possibly go wrong?" Savannah Guthrie cracked before welcoming the Broadway vet onstage. Then she started talking about A Broader Way, a summer musical theater camp Menzel founded to help kids "find their own voices."
"Idina loves these girls," Guthrie explained. "It turns out Idina doesn't just have the voice of an angel, she has the heart of one too."

And then, guess what happened? Can ya? Huh? Huh? A bunch of A Broader Way kids poured out on stage, launching into a mashup of Let it Go and Defying Gravity. I may or may not have cried. Idina definitely cried. It was beautiful, endearing, everything a Broadway-related awards show should be.

"I wasn't prepared for that!" Menzel began. "If you ever need to be reminded of taking risk, just spend a little time with these wonderful women who come out of this city into the country and escape from their everyday life. They're my inspiration. Thank you."
