Idris Elba Believes Meghan Markle Will Be A "Beacon" Within The Royal Family

Meghan Markle Prince Harry Idris Elba

Idris Elba has stated that Meghan Markle will be “a beacon” and a role model in the Royal Family once she ties the knot with Prince Harry next year.

The 45 year old star of ‘Luther’ and ‘The Wire’ was speaking before a Buckingham Palace dinner to honour the work of the Prince’s Trust. He was asked about the importance of black and mixed race role models, and whether Ms Markle could make a difference through her engagement to the youngest prince.

“Meghan Markle, as a person, regardless of her colour, is a role model,” Elba said in comments reported by The Independent on Friday (December 15th).

Thor: Ragnarok Review

Very Good

The most riotously enjoyable Marvel movie yet, this action epic benefits hugely from the decision to let wacky New Zealand filmmaker Taika Waititi loose with the characters. In many ways, this film has the same comical sensibilities as his classics What We Do in the Shadows and Hunt for the Wilderpeople. Except on a much larger scale with massive special effects. Yet even with all this action, there's not a moment of actual suspense, which is a growing problem in a movie universe in which the characters need to survive unscathed.

Ragnarok is a prophecy about the end of time, specifically the death of King Odin (Anthony Hopkins) and the destruction of Asgard. And it has just been triggered, stopping Odin's sons Thor (Chris Hemsworth) and Loki (Tom Hiddleston) in their tracks with the news that they have an older sister, Hela (Cate Blanchett), the self-proclaimed goddess of death. As she brutally asserts her claim to the throne, the brothers find themselves dumped on the planet Sakaar. Loki mischievously worms his way into the favour of the Grandmaster (Jeff Goldblum), who sends Thor into the coliseum to fight the champion, namely his old friend Hulk (Mark Ruffalo). As Thor convinces Hulk's alter-ego David Banner to return with him to Asgard to stop Hela, he also needs Asgard's last Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), a tetchy warrior who is reluctant to work with him.

Thor: Ragnarok Trailer

Idris Elba Explains The Lure Of The Dark Tower

Idris Elba Stephen King

The film has been in the works for more than a decade, and its path to the cinema has been rocky. The first hurdle came with the casting of Idris Elba in the lead role, which sparked a social media outcry that the character isn't black. King himself weighed into this debate. "Honestly, I didn't care what colour he was as long as he could command the screen, draw fast and shoot straight," the author said.

For his part, Elba was intrigued by playing a character from a King novel. "I was excited to sign on for the role because he does create complex, well-rounded characters with a lot of depth," the actor says. "And Roland Deschain in particular is a character that has a massive, massive journey throughout the book series. Yes, I want the fans to be satisfied by the character I portray, but the wonderful thing with being an actor in film is that I am able to interpret the character. And I hope the fans are proud of our interpretatiom.

Release Date For Stephen King's 'The Dark Tower' Pushed Back Again

Idris Elba

Coming to fans across the globe later this year, Stephen King's 'The Dark Tower' novel has finally been adapted for cinema, starring Idris Elba, Tom Taylor and Matthew McConaughey in the leading roles as The Gunslinger, Jake Chambers and The Man In Black respectively. With reports last year that the film would act as a sequel to the eight-book series rather than a pure, through-and-through adaptation however, there could be surprises around every corner, even for those who have enjoyed reading through the novels in the past. While we'll be dealing with many of the same characters already introduced through the books, this is a different journey entirely.

Taking inspiration from a multitude of different genres, it's hard to pin down exactly what one should expect from 'The Dark Tower'. At times it's a dark Western, but at others there are elements of science fiction and fantasy. There's no telling what you're going to get in this story.

100 Streets Review

OK

A multi-strand drama set in London, this film is very nicely shot and acted, but the simplistic script makes it difficult to properly engage with. Every plot point feels pushy, as the characters are forced into situations that are oddly contrived by screenwriter Leon Butler. This means that the actors feel less like real people and more like cardboard-cutout figures. At least they're sharply well-played by a superb cast.

The central plot strand centres on Max (Idris Elba), a famous former rugby star whose womanising has shattered his marriage to Emily (Gemma Arterton), but he hasn't given up trying to win her back. She, on the other hand, is devoted to their children and developing a romance with a photographer (Tom Cullen). Meanwhile, cab driver George (Charlie Creed-Miles) and his wife Kathy (Kierston Wareing) have started the process to adopt a child. Then George is involved in a fatal car accident that leaves him badly shaken. And on a rough nearby estate, the teenaged Kingsley (Franz Drameh) is a thug simply because he doesn't know how to break the cycle of violence. But he wants to change. On a community service sentence, he meets veteran actor Terence (Ken Stott) who encourages him to explore his burgeoning artistic side.

These three storylines circle around each other in the same part of London, but only very rarely intersect. Each one explores the realities in a specific strata of society, from wealthy to working class to deprived. All of these people are struggling to get their lives back on track, facing unexpected challenges at every turn and finding encouragement in the places they least expect. All of this is very well-played by the gifted actors, adding emotion and energy to each scene. But the script never allows any of these stories to develop realistically, forcing each event with corny plot devices that limit what the actors can do with their roles.

Finding Dory Trailer

Dory's past has always eluded her, she's a little forgetful fish whose bright character and warm heart make up for all the times she's got herself - and her friends - into trouble. Dory lives with Marlin and Nemo but now she wants to go out and find her real parents. Before she can begin her real adventure, Dory finds herself being scooped up and taken to a marine institute. Whilst in quarantine, Dory meets a whole host of new friends who instantly take to the little blue tang. Hank, the octopus, Bailey the white beluga whale and Destiny the whale shark are just a few creatures who will help her.

For Dory, her mission is quite clear, she must escape the confines of her new home and return to the ocean to find her family - whilst hopefully finding Marlin and Nemo once again too. Dory's new friends in the institute are eager to help Dory out however they can.

Finding Dory is the 2016 follow-up to the 2003 film Finding Nemo. Like the first film, it was written and directed by Andrew Stanton but this time directorial duties are in partnership with Angus MacLane.

Disney Ellen Degeneres Idris Elba

'Finding Dory' is definitely on the way now, and with it a whole host of lovable new characters. It takes place just a year after the events of 'Finding Nemo', even if it's taken more than ten years for this sequel to finally arrive. We're sure it'll be worth the wait.

Directed by Andrew Stanton and Angus MacLane, 'Finding Dory' is set to arrive on June 17th 2016. While it was disappointing to learn that we won't be hearing Michael Sheen's voice in the movie after all since he was edited out of the final cut, the new characters that did make it are still inescapably awesome.
