Reports suggest the trouble began shortly after the group took the stage at the Tempe Beach Park event, as attendees attempted to rush the stage.

The crowd chaos prompted organisers to pull the plug on Rebelution's show as emergency services were called to the scene.

An estimated 10 to 12 people required medical treatment for injuries, which also included heat and alcohol-related ailments, while one person was hospitalised with a serious head injury, according to Tempe Fire Department officials.

A statement released by event promoter Tom LaPenna reads: "The heat combined with the excitement of fans seeing their favorite music artist caused some fans to experience some difficulty in the front of the stage areas. This caused a brief delay in music but we resumed shortly thereafter.

"Lucky Man Concerts coordinated the efforts of local officials to insure public safety and the show continued on."

Performances by rapper Big Sean and reggae rockers Slightly Stoopid went ahead as planned, while hip-hop star J. Cole headlined the third night of the four-day bash.

Taking to Twitter.com on Sunday (27Sep15), the Rebelution bandmates write, "Prayers go out to those who were injured last night".

Kanye West is due to close the 2015 festival on Sunday night (27Sep15).
