Goosebumps Has Scared Its Way To The Top Of The North American Box Office In Its Opening Weekend (17-18oct15).
The action comedy, starring Jack Black as author R.L. Stine, has earned $23.5 million (£14.7 million), overtaking last week's number one, The Martian, which places second with $21.5 million (£13.4 million).
Celebrating the movie's success, Sony Pictures executive Rory Bruer says, "This movie was a ball (lot of fun) to make, and that fun translated to the screen. Our marketing team did a great job of getting the word out that Goosebumps was something different than typical Halloween fare and families got the message."
Coming in at number three is Tom Hanks' Bridge of Spies with $15.4 million (£9.6 million), while Guillermo del Toro's Crimson Peak takes the fourth spot with $12.8 million (£8 million).
Hotel Transylvania 2 rounds out the top five with $12.3 million (£7.7 million).
