Good news for Jack Black fans: Nickelodeon are set to revisit one of his classic films, 'School of Rock', by creating a spin-off television series.
Whilst it's not yet known if Black will return to repise his role as penniless musician turned eccentric music teacher Dewey Finn, original director Richard Linklater will be involved, fresh off the success off his latest film, the masterpiece Boyhood. Yep, who knew that the director of 2014's independent masterpiece was also responsible for creating the song 'Math is a Wonderful Thing'? Producer Scott Rudin is also on board. Thirteen episodes have been commissioned and the series is expected to premiere in Spring 2015.
Black was hugely memorable in the 2003 film
"School of Rock is one of those great movies that always felt quintessentially Nickelodeon in its tone and humor, and we jumped at the opportunity to partner with Paramount Television and bring it to life as a TV series," said Russell Hicks, president of content and development at Nick.
It's not the first project based on the hit kids' film either- Andrew Lloyd Webber is planning a musical based on it, that will likely be headed for Broadway or the West End.
School of Rock is actually the latest in a succession of Paramount films to be greenlit for a television spin-off; other hopefuls include Ghost, The Truman Show, and Terminator, which already spawned 'Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles'.
Meanwhile, original star of the film Jack Black is gearing up to play Goosebumps himself creator R. L. Stine in a film that offers a new take on the childrens' horror series.
