Jaden Smith may star in M. Night Shyamalan's new movie 'One Thousand A.E.'.

The 'Karate Kid' actor - the son of Will Smith and his wife Jada Pinkett-Smith - is the focus of attention by Shyamalan, who is directing he project and is keen to get the 12-year-old star on board.

Plot details about the movie - scripted by 'The Book of Eli' writer Gary Whitta - are currently under wraps, but it is known it will be a sci-fi film with another role set for an older male, although Jaden's father Will is not taking it on, according to the Hollywood Reporter's Heat Vision Blog.

Jaden - whose nine-year-old sister Willow is currently beginning a career as a pop star - made his movie debut in 2006's 'The Pursuit of Happyness' and was well received in 'The Karate Kid' remake earlier this year.

Most recently he has been seen in the music video for his sister's debut single 'Whip My Hair'.

Shyamalan - best known for horror thrillers 'The Sixth Sense' and 'The Village' - last worked on 'Devil' with Chris Messina and Logan Marshall-Green.
