Pierce Brosnan Claims Daniel Craig's Bond Films Have Lost Their Sense Of Humour

Pierce Brosnan Daniel Craig James Bond

Pierce Brosnan feels that the James Bond films have become too dark in tone and have lost their sense of humour in the Daniel Craig era, and blames the rise of the Bourne series.

65 year old Brosnan, who starred in four of the franchise’s films, last played 007 in 2002’s Die Another Day. Since then, Daniel Craig has overseen a revival in the series’ credibility and commercial fortunes, but his predecessor told The Rake that he had concerns about the direction the Bond films had taken.

“I knew there had been a seismic shift, and little did I know I was going to be part of that in the curtain falling on my contract,” Brosnan explained, adding that it was down to the rise in more serious spy films like The Bourne Identity, which was released the same year as his final James Bond movie.

The 25th Bond film is an important point in film history, and speculation about who will direct and who will portray the legendary British spy has been rife since the release of the last movie 'Spectre' in 2015. Now we know that Daniel Craig has at least one more movie in him, and the introduction of Danny Boyle at the helm is certainly most exciting.

Danny Boyle Rumoured To Direct Next Bond Film

Danny Boyle James Bond

Trainspotting director Danny Boyle has emerged as a surprise frontrunner to helm the next James Bond film, it has been reported.

After what felt like years of speculation as to the identity of the next 007, only for it to revert to Daniel Craig for a final time after he had consistently said that he would never play the role again, the rumour mill has turned to who’ll be on the other side of the camera.

Late last year, it was reported that Denis Villeneuve, who directed the long-awaited Blade Runner sequel in 2017, was the desired choice by MGM and Eon to take charge of the 25th Bond film. However, Villeneuve said that while it would be “a pleasure”, he is focussing on his “dream project” Dune, the movie adaptation of Frank Herbert’s sci-fi book of the same name.

'James Bond' producer Barbara Broccoli has said she's open to the idea of a woman directing the next entry into the franchise. In recent months, female-led Hollywood movies have done incredibly well, with 'Wonder Woman' being the obvious example to point to. Led by fan-favourite actress Gal Gadot and brilliant director Patty Jenkins, the film did so well in the box office that the pair will be returning for a now-confirmed sequel in the near future.

Apple And Amazon Compete For James Bond Film Rights

James Bond Daniel Craig

Tech giants Amazon and Apple have joined the race to buy up the film distribution rights to the James Bond franchise, according to new reports.

While Warner Bros. remains in pole position to secure the rights to the British spy movie franchise – whose deal with Sony expired in 2015 upon the release of SpectreThe Hollywood Reporter believes that a pair of unlikely bidders in Amazon and Apple are competing to land the rights. MGM and Eon Productions, who co-own the rights but don’t distribute, have been hearing bids for the best part of two years.

They are prepared to spend in the same region as Warners, reckoned to be between $2 billion and $5 billion, and THR therefore believes that the digital giants are looking to tap Bond for more than just film rights and believe there is other real-estate to be had digitally.

Daniel Craig Confirms He Will Return One More Time To Play James Bond

Daniel Craig James Bond Stephen Colbert

Daniel Craig has finally ended more than a year over speculation over his future in the James Bond role, confirming this week that he will return to play 007 for the last time in the next movie.

The English actor famously said, ahead of the release of Spectre back in 2015, that he would sooner “slit his wrists” than play Bond again. However, he may now live to regret those words, after he confirmed to Stephen Colbert on US chat show ‘The Late Show’ on Tuesday night (August 15th) that he would be reprising the role one last time when the 25th movie is released in two years’ time.

“I have been quite cagey about it,” Craig admitted to Colbert. “I have been doing interviews all day and people have been asking me and I think I’ve been rather coy. But kind of felt like if I was going to speak the truth I should speak truth to you.”

Sculptor Bradley Simms is pictured working on the wax figure sculpt of Pierce Brosnan, as Madame Tussauds London announces it will bring together all six Bonds for the first time in October. Brosnan played 007 four times appearing first in 1995’s GoldenEye , he is featured as he appeared in the 1997 film TOMORROW NEVER DIES. - Madame Tussauds London today announced it is bringing together wax figures of ALL SIX James Bonds for the very first time this October, with five completely new wax 007s joining the existing figure of Daniel Craig. To coincide with the release of Albert R. Broccoli's EON Productions, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios, and Sony Pictures Entertainment's SPECTRE, the line-up of Connery, Lazenby, Moore, Dalton, Brosnan and Craig will appear at the legendary London attraction for a limited time only, before embarking on a tour of Madame Tussauds' worldwide. This unique experience, created in close collaboration with EON Productions, will give fans an opportunity to stand side by side with all six Bonds - in the same place, at the same time. Guests are invited to see how they measure up to each 007, pose with their favourite and take a stand out profile picture. Each of these new wax figures will be featured in a classic 007 dinner suit, designed by Oscar® winning costume designer Lindy Hemming, based on the original costume. The Madame Tussauds team already had access to measurements of Craig, Connery, Moore, Dalton and Brosnan from previous figures featured at the attraction but needed George Lazenby's to complete the picture. The star of On Her Majesty's Secret Service was happy to oblige and gave the artists a sitting in LA in February. "The kind of information we can gather at a sitting is hugely beneficial, even at a different time period to the figure we are creating," commented Stephen Mansfield, one of the Principle Sculptors on the project. "George was extremely entertaining and generous and we gathered an entire catalogue of measurements, photographs and footage. We are using those along with references from the film to create what we hope will be an authentic and lifelike figure." General Manager of Madame Tussauds London, Edward Fuller, is delighted to be hosting the line up on the first leg of their world tour. He commented, "It's very at Madame Tussauds - London, United Kingdom - Friday 24th July 2015
