Jamie Dornan is officially the new Christian Grey in the 50 Shades of Grey movie. The actor was revealed as the successor to Charlie Hunnam, who left the 50 Shades of Grey project amidst reports that he had gotten cold feet due to the immense pressure and exposure of the role, late on Wednesday, 23 October, via a report from The Hollywood Reporter.

The 31-year-old Once Upon A Time actor beat off a host of competing actors all vying for the high-profile role, and was chosen over a host of favorites for the role, including Matt Bomer and Alexander Skarsgard. With Dornan's casting, the film can once again begin to pick up steam and finally begin filming, following weeks of frantic searching for a new Grey. With the appointment, the film may still be finished in time to reach the scheduled 1 August, 2014 release date.

Dornan was picked for the role after a screen test alongside Anastasia Steele actress Dakota Johnson, who was confirmed for the role along with Hunnam earlier this year, on Friday (18 Oct.). The test, which was also taken by Tony-nominated actor Billy Magnussen the same day, proved so successful that he was handed the role soon after the weekend.

Dornan may appear a slightly more suitable choice for the role of Grey, but given the response to Hunnam and Johnson's appointment last month, we're still not sure how this might sit with fans of the book. An online petition was set up by disgruntled fans following the appointment of Hunnam and Johnson, demanding that Matt Bomer and Alexis Bledel replace them.
