The Ray star was joined by Downton Abbey actress Lily James to present the prize for Best Original Score at the Los Angeles event, but when the time came for the pair to reveal the winner, Jamie decided to have a little fun.

Opening the envelope, he announced, "And the winner is, Straight Outta Compton!"

He then apologised, just like Steve did after crowning the wrong Miss Universe last month (Dec15), and told the audience at the Beverly Hilton Hotel ceremony, "I'm sorry folks, I made a mistake - it's right here on the card. I take full responsibility... I apologise to everybody in Compton, I apologise to (producer) Ice Cube, I'm sorry...!"

The stunt mirrored Steve's embarrassing mix up at the Las Vegas beauty pageant in December (15), when he accidentally named Miss Colombia, Ariadna Gutierrez-Arevalo, the new title holder, instead of Miss Philippines, Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach.

Jamie eventually let Lily announce the real winner, Ennio Morricone for The Hateful Eight.

Filmmaker Quentin Tarantino accepted the award on his pal's behalf, declaring the musician his "favourite composer" of all time.

He added, "Ennio Morricone has never won an award for any one individual movie that he has done. He has in Italy, but not in America... But I have to say... that I directed the movie that the great Ennio Morricone, at 87 years of age, did an original score for and won the Golden Globe. For Ennio and his wife, I say, 'Thank you and grazie, grazie (thank you in Italian)!'"
