'Evil Dead' director Fede Alvarez has revealed he exposed stars Jane Levy and Shiloh Fernandez to ''real danger'' to capture natural responses in the horror flick.
'Evil Dead' star Jane Levy was exposed to ''real danger'' while shooting the film.
Director Fede Alvarez - who helmed the recent reboot of Sam Raimi's classic horror flick - has revealed he wanted to capture the actress' real fear in the movie and says many of the scenes were incredibly challenging for the leading lady.
He explained: ''There was a lot [of tough scenes for Jane]. Every scene was unique and felt real, and we're seeing Jane's response. We didn't use CGI. Jane was exposed to real things and real dangers.
''There's a scene towards the end of the film where she's behind the shelves and her evil self is piercing through it with a machete and cutting her knee and arm. That was a narrow space and that machete was real and sharp. That was a scary environment.''
The horror remake was filmed in a forest in Auckland, New Zealand, which is said to be spooked by the spirits of fallen warriors, and it seems there were some scary moments on set.
Alvarez exclusively told BANG Showbiz: ''I told [actor] Shiloh [Fernandez] to stand in this forest in the dark for 15 minutes before shooting a scene and he came back and he was pale and white and terrified. He never told me what happened.''
'Evil Dead' is available on DVD and Blu-ray now.
