Jane's Addiction star Dave Navarro has posed in a gruesome new photoshoot to protest against animal testing in the cosmetic industry.

The guitarist appears topless with blood pouring from his eyes in the advertisement for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (Peta) along with the tagline Animal Testing Kills: Choose Cruelty-Free.

Navarro is asking fans to follow his lead by pledging their support to Peta's Cruelty-Free campaign, which urges beauty bosses to stop testing products on rabbits, guinea pigs and mice.

The rocker says, "They're not taking a bunny rabbit and putting mascara on it. They're injecting a chemical directly into its eye to see what kind of adverse reaction happens to it. In many cases, parts of their body are ripped open. They're all alive, and they're all aware. It's torture for the animal - it's terrifying and painful and probably one of the cruellest things done in the name of vanity."

It is not the first time Navarro has teamed up with Peta - he posed for the agency's famous Ink, Not Mink series, baring his tattoos in a stand against the fur industry.
