It’s been seven years since she gave the music world some much need Discipline, but Janet Jackson is finally on her way back! The singer announced her return to making music and touring late last night with a video post on Twitter, just as celebrations for her 49th birthday began.

“I promised you'd hear it from my lips and now you will," the singer said in the video which was captioned, 'My conversation... #ConversationsInACafe'. “This year: new music; new world tour; a new movement. I've been listening. Let's keep the conversation going.”

Rumours about Jackson’s eleventh studio album had been swirling for years, after she confirmed in May 2013 that she was working on new material. In August of last year the singer had told fans via Twitter, "If there is a new project, you'll hear it from my lips.”

But last month anticipation for a Janet comeback seemed to increase, after she retweeted a fan who had made a mock Missing Persons poster which joked Jackson was ‘missing from the entertainment/music industry’.

Producer Jimmy Jam, who has been working with Jackson, had been hinting all day Friday that some big news was coming, telling fans on Twitter, ‘For those wondering why I haven't been talking? It's because I've been listening’.

Jackson’s last studio album was Discipline, which hit the Billboard number one spot in February 2008. A year later the singer parted ways with her record label Island Records. In 2009 she released a greatest hits album, Number Ones, featuring all 33 of her singles which have hit the top spot around the world.
