The Mad Men actress, January Jones has revealed that she ate her own placenta after giving birth, the UK Press Association revealed yesterday (March 26, 2012). It was, apparently, all part of a plan to get her ready for filming a new series of the show, just six weeks after giving birth to her first child, Xander.
Jones also told People magazine that the staff of Mad Men made it easy for her, though she found the long days tough. She reveals that she had "a great doula" who ensured that she was sticking to healthy diet to keep her fit for the demanding hours on set. Part of that healthy eating plan involved eating her own placenta: "Your placenta gets dehydrated and made into vitamins. It's something I was very hesitant about, but we're the only mammals who don't ingest our own placentas. It's not witch-crafty or anything! I suggest it to all moms!" Luckily for Jones, she was able to have Xander on set with her. "I had the baby and the baby nurse in their own room so I could go back and feed him every two hours," she reveals.
Talking about the excitement of filming the latest season of Mad Men, Jones told reporters that she gets 'first day nerves' every time a new season begins, explaining "The first episode I'm always finding my way back into my character's shoes. But then after a few days, I'm able to fall pretty easily back into her, and find her voice and her body language and everything that I do for her."
