Just what is this villainous team all about?
Too often are we made to see the world through the eyes of a superhero. Too often are we presented with a black and white view of good and evil. 'Suicide Squad' brings you the ultimate nemesis team, promised freedom in return for saving the world. Can they do it? Or is destruction just their nature?
Jared Leto is the latest incarnation of The Joker
The gates of Arkham Asylum have opened, and the horror within unleashed. They've been enlisted on a top secret black ops mission that only they can perform. The future depends now on the so-called villains and not the heroes. Ahead of the August premiere, we delve into the membership of the Suicide Squad:
Watch the new trailer for 'Suicide Squad' here:
The Joker (Jared Leto): The arch nemesis of Batman, he's a criminal mastermind who likes blowing stuff up and is probably the most clinically crazy of all the DC supervillains. He likes to have fun and pretty much everything's a joke to him - especially death and destruction. Previous cinematic incarnations of the Joker have been played by Heath Ledger and Jack Nicholson.
Margot Robbie is Harley Quinn
Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie): She's like the female equivalent of the Joker, who - according to the comics - fell for him while working as his psychiatrist Dr. Harleen F. Quinzel and subsequently became his sidekick. She's not been portrayed in a live action movie yet but she's sure to be a favourite.
Adam Beach is Slipknot
Slipknot (Adam Beach): AKA Christopher Weiss, as well as being a trained assassin, he's also a master in the use of ropes. Be they unbreakable, undoable, unclimbable, he knows how to handle himself with a rope even in the face of 'deadlier' weapons.
Jai Courtney is Captain Boomerang
Captain Boomerang (Jai Courtney): The clue is in the name with George Harkness' savage alter-ego. He's a master of killing with her boomerangs, and he's also one of the biggest pieces of trash that's ever entered Arkham Asylum. Always up for a fight, according to the comics he's actually one of the main enemies of the Flash. But he'll be making more enemies unless he bucks up his ideas and agrees to work as a team.
Cara Delevingne is Enchantress
Enchantress (Cara Delevingne): Julie Moon has the most magical powers of all of these guys, able to control ancient forces and probably destroy the world if she isn't kept in check. Unfortunately, magic is a volatile thing and the pressure that comes with it is pushing her to breaking point.
Joel Kinnaman is Rick Flagg
Rick Flagg (Joel Kinnaman): A military officer that would've been played by Tom Hardy had he not dropped out over scheduling conflicts. Flagg has no supernatural abilities, rather he is one of the finest killers the military has ever produced and has the skills in surveillance and infiltration to lead the Suicide Squad on their mission.
Will Smith is Deadshot
Deadshot (Will Smith): Another deadly assassin, Floyd Lawton is not really affiliated with any other members of the Suicide Squad aside from Harley Quinn. He's also another one of Batman's adversaries and is an expert marksman, armed with his cybernetic eye and variety of firearms.
Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje is Killer Croc
Killer Croc (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje): While most of these villains are the sort of people you never want to make angry, Killer Croc aka Waylon Jones is the guy you don't want to be around when he's hungry. He's not exactly a mutant in the sense of being a human/reptile hybrid, rather he suffers from a skin condition and enjoys cannibalism.
Jay Hernandez is El Diablo
El Diablo (Jay Hernandez): Despite his scary tattooed features, this former gang member whose real name is Chato Santana is probably the most peaceful of the Suicide Squad team. He has the ability to manipulate fire, which is probably a useful thing given the overly destructive tendencies of his teammates.
Karen Fukuhara is Katana
Katana (Karen Fukuhara): Tatsu Yamashiro is a samurai warrior with superior martial art skills and unbeatable swordsmanship. Her sword is her deadliest weapon, but there's a lot more to it than meets the eye.
Viola Davis is Amanda Waller
Amanda Waller (Viola Davis): Last but not least, this sociopathic government official is the heart of the Suicide Squad. Not to be trifled with, she doesn't care who has to die to get things done and she's more than willing to pick up a gun herself.
