Jason Derulo On Split From Jordin Sparks: Infidelity Was Not The Cause

Jason Derulo confirmed on Thursday (25th September) he has separated from Jordin Sparks. Although he claimed the split was amicable, it didn't stop rumours spreading which suggested something unsavoury had caused their relationship to end. In response, Derulo offered to set the record straight and issued a statement to a US news site.

Jordin Sparks and Jason Derulo have split after three years together.

25-year-old Derulo announced the split whilst appearing on a radio talk show on Minneapolis' KDWB. Speaking on the show, Derulo said "Everything is cool man. It's not a bad situation, it's not one of those kinds of things."

Derulo was keen to reiterate this point in a statement to ABC. In his statement, issued on Friday (26th September), Derulo stated he was only speaking about a private matter because of media speculation and that their split was not the result of "infidelity, cheating or deceit".

Derulo's full statement reads: "Though I think it is a private matter and intended to keep my break-up Jordin personal, due to bogus and irresponsible lies being reported by insensitive media outlets it became necessary for me to comment I spent three great years with Jordin and she is one of the most amazing people that I have ever met. But as in all relationships there are ups and downs and at this time we have decided to amicably part. Infidelity, cheating or deceit played no part in our relationship or our break-up, and I hope that people respect our privacy as we move forward with our lives."

Jordin Sparks and Jason Derulo have both seemingly commented on the split.

Sparks also appeared to address the split although in a less direct manner, as People reports. On Friday the singer wrote an optimistic but bitter sweet tweet which many have suggested is in response to her separation from Derulo. Sparks wrote "Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened."

The former couple were first romantically linked in 2011 and were dating for three years. Many have expressed their surprise about the couple's sudden split as it appeared Derulo was considering proposing to Sparks. Indeed, he revealed his song 'Marry Me' was written for and about Sparks.
