Jean-Claude Van Damme On Menahem Golan, "I Love You, I Always Will"

Actors, producers and directors have been paying tribute to the pioneering Israeli producer Menahem Golan following his death in Tel Aviv on Friday (August 8, 2014) at the age of 85. Golan directed the classic 1980s action movies Bloodsport, Missing in Action and The Delta Force.

Jean-Claude Van Damme's Volvo Stunt Is Awesome, But Does It Make You Want To Buy A Truck?

Jean Claude Van Damme

Sure, Jean-Claude Van Damme hasn’t been in the public eye the way Justin Bieber or Miley Cyrus have been these past few years, but apparently the martial artist/actor has the makings of a viral video star. And all it took was a couple of Volvo trucks. And years of training, of course.

Jean-Claude Van Damme, The Groove
53-year-old Van Damme showed off his Superman-like skills in the ad.

The Volvo ad, which you can watch below was intended to show off the vehicles’ Volvo Dynamic Steering and demonstrate their stability and the technology’s precision. Although to us non auto enthusiasts it’s just a demonstration of Van Damme’s unbelievable athletic ability and his nerves of steel. Oh, and one thing to keep in mind, while you’re watching the video – the man is 53 years old. The ad is just as much about showing off Van Damme’s skills as it is about Volvo. And while experts say that this kind of viral marketing does tend to have a positive impact on a brand’s sales (according to Mediapost.com advertising columnist Barbara Lippert, speaking for USA Today) it is unclear how many of the 7.7 million views on the youtube video belong to people, who will go out to purchase a Volvo truck afterwards.

Sylvester Stallone Twitter Rant: "Harrison Ford In", "Greedy" Bruce Willis Out Of 'Expendables 3'

Sylvester Stallone has made his feelings towards Bruce Willis crystal clear after tweeting about Expendables 3. The Rocky actor confirmed that Harrison Ford would be joining the Expendables cast, replacing Willis.

Stallone described Bruce Willis as "greedy and "lazy" on Twitter shortly after confirming Harrison Ford will be replacing Willis in Expendables 3. In his first Tweet, Stallone claimed he'd "been waiting for years" for the news that "Willis out" and "Harrison in".

Hot Tickets! This Weekend’s US Movie Releases, Killing Them Softly, The Collection, Universal Soldier, Craptastic (Addicted To Fame)

Brad Pitt James Gandolfini Ray Liotta Andrew Dominik Emma Fitzpatrick Jean Claude Van Damme Dolph Lundgren Anna Nicole Smith

The highlight of this week’s movie releases is, unarguable. This is the time of year that many major releases come smothered in a blanket of ‘will it / won’t it’ chatter, with regards to Oscar nominations. The run-up to the release of the Brad Pitt-starring Killing Them Softly has been muted, though and it looks as though the Academy might be glossing over this particular mob tale.

Of course, gangster stories, in themselves, are nothing new in Hollywood but Killing Them Softly is showing signs of being one of the better ones. The perfect mix of dark drama and dark humour, Pitt leads a stellar cast, including James Gandolfini, and Ray Liotta (gangster movie essentials, no?) and director Andrew Domink has wooed the critics, thus far, causing Andrew O’Hehir of Salon.com to comment “It has a weird, buzzing, intense quality that has burrowed its way deep into my brain like some invasive sci-fi organism.” It remains to be seen, though, whether the folk over at the Academy decide it’s worthy of a nod.

Jean-Claude Van Damme Hopes To Be Reunited With His 13-Year-Old Son

Jean Claude Van Damme

80s action movie legend Jean-Claude Van Damme is hoping that he will be reunited with his estranged teenage son after the release of 'Universal Soldier: Regeneration'. The movie hard-man had no contact with his 13-year-old son, Nicholas, ever since he split up with his fourth wife Darcy LaPier and a bitter fight led to him losing custody.

Van Damme claims that Nicholas isn't even allowed to speak to his half-siblings Kristopher and Bianca - two children from an earlier relationship of Van Damme's. The star is hoping that a reunion is upcoming, after appearing in the semi-autobiographical movie 'JCVD', hoping that the film proves he isn't a failure.

JCVD Review

OK
Pity Steven Seagal couldn't ever make a movie like this. Not just because his initials would have caused the movie to be called "SS" -- not the most desirable title -- but because the ponytailed one is ultimately not half the actor that Jean Claude Van Damme is. Also, Seagal's karate is a joke.

The kicker of a conceit behind Mabrouk El Mechri's meta-action drama JCVD is that Van Damme plays himself, an aging action star whose life is already falling apart before he gets pulled into his own action film. The muscles from Brussels is back in his home town, just trying to get his life together. A custody proceeding back in California is sucking the life out of him and his career is in the toilet. Approaching 50 years old, the Van Damme of the film is still recognized everywhere he goes -- certain brands of action heroes have a shelf life that outlasts the release dates of their more popular films by at least a decade, it seems -- but that isn't translating into enough lucre to pay off the ex-wife. So Van Damme finds himself running around trying to get a money transfer and ends up at the one post office in Brussels where a robbery and hostage situation is taking place.

Derailed (2002) Review

Terrible
Proving that her brazen performance in Mulholland Drive was a total fluke, Laura Harring's sad attempt at acting in this Jean-Claude Van Damme vehicle is nonetheless the best part of the movie. At least she has personality, if you catch my meaning.

Sadly, this apparent remake of Under Siege II, if you can believe that, has a speeding train, a biological weapon as cargo, terrorists, and Van Damme to muck up the operation. With all the usual atrocious dialogue ("We've got to clear the tracks now... and call the World Health Organization!"), awful effects (some of the worst bluescreening I've ever seen, and isn't that the cutest little model train???), and of course, fisticuffs (poor Van Damme isn't getting any younger), this is one bad, bad movie.

Sudden Death Review

Weak
There are Die Hard clones, and there is Sudden Death. How identical are these two films? Instead of taking place in an office building, Sudden Death takes place in a hockey arena. Star Jean-Claude Van Damme isn't a cop; he's a fireman. His wife isn't held hostage; his daughter is. The villains don't want bearer bonds; they want money transfers. The computer geek isn't black; he's white.

Universal Soldier: The Return Review

Weak
Jean-Claude's best days are behind him. Way behind him. The former martial arts champion is now graying at the temples, and he still hasn't improved on his English accent. Of course, his acting skills -- in the traditional sense of dialogue and mannerisms -- have never given us sufficient reason to watch his movies, but when his physical capabilities start to deteriorate, you know he's in trouble.

So what do you do when your star loses his signature appeal? Universal Soldier: The Return attempts to turn him into a sort of James Bond, allowing him to rely on high tech stunts and clever intuition rather than pure power. The problem is that nobody wants Van Damme when we've already got Arnold, Pierce Brosnan, and even Sly Stallone as kings of the one-liner action flicks. So the formula is set: a limited budget, a fallible star, and Goldberg, the WCW wrestler, as your ominous villain. The result is a predictably lackluster flick.

Knock Off Review

Weak
Believe it or not, worse Van Damme movies have been made. But this one's no gem -- the story of a Hong Kong fashion designer who gets caught up in a counterfeiting ring -- not to mention a plot to blow up the world, pretty much. Far too hard to follow for a beat-up movie.

Hard Target Review

Bad
Hard target my ass.

Of all of the dumb action flicks that I have seen, Hard Target is perhaps the easiest target of all to hit. It sits there, a bloated animal on the silver screen, waiting for some nasty critic to take pen to paper and kick it until it stops moving... and I suppose that job would fall upon yours truly.

Maximum Risk Review

Bad
More Van Dam-age as our favorite musclebound Belgian, once again as a twin!, goes on a rampage in search of revenge or well, a clue, when his until-then-unknown twin shows up dead in a Paris street. Off to New York. Fights ensue. Van-Damme kicks a lot of ass. Explosions occur. The end.
