Jim Carrey Jeff Daniels

Dumb & Dumber To, the sequel to Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels' classic comedy movie, has posted $38.1 million on its opening weekend at the box-office. The movie edged out the critically acclaimed Disney animation Big Hero 6, which took $36 million for its second weekend.

Christopher Nolan's visual epic Interstellar had to settle for third place on the back of criticism of its sound. Some viewers have complained that sections of dialogue are difficult to hear - as was the case in The Dark Knight Rises - though the director told the Hollywood Reporter that was intentional.

"Dumb And Dumber To" Is Just A Bit Too Dumb, Say Critics

Jim Carrey Jeff Daniels

You knew it was coming, I knew it was coming, but we were NOT prepared. Dumb and Dumber To is in cinemas this weekend. Naturally, the first instinct of most critics was to RIP IT TO SHREDS. With just 27% approval on Rotten Tomatoes, the question of the day seems to be: “Why, Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels, WHY?”

Jim Carrey, Jeff Daniels
It's just not the same, guys.

So what exactly is wrong with it? To quote Rolling Stone’s  Peter Travers, “Time can be cruel, especially to sequels.” According to Travers – as well as a host of other reviewers, gags have an expiration date and the ones in D&D are way past theirs. But it’s not like the sequel is completely irredeemable – it just falls far short of the original. “. This isn’t some cynical piece of garbage like Another 48 Hrs. Carrey and Daniels are in there working hard and almost getting their tricky rhythms back. On paper, the premise sounds more than serviceable,” David Edelstein writes for Vulture.

'Dumb & Dumber To' Is Terrible. There. We Said It. Everyone Said It.

Jim Carrey Jeff Daniels

We get the feeling this Dumb & Dumber sequel could have been a lot cleverer - a lot slicker than this. The return of Harry and Lloyd probably represents a considerable payday for Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels, though the classic original has a legion of quote-loving fans and you can't help but think they deserved a little more.

Dumb & Dumber: How Jim Carrey's Salary Went From $350k To $7 Million

Jim Carrey Jeff Daniels

Dumb & Dumber To is almost ready for release and although the comedy sequel probably isn't going to live up to expectations (if there were any), at least we've got the Farrelly brothers' promotional jaunt to keep us entertained. The directors were speaking to students at Loyola Marymount University's School of Film and Television this week and recounted numerous stories about production on the classic 1995 movie, including Jim Carrey's inflated salary.

Dumb & Dumber ToJim Carrey [L] and Jeff Daniels [R] shooting Dumb & Dumber To

Peter recalled how Steve Stabler - producer on Dumb & Dumber - offered Jim Carrey $350k to do the original film, which he passed on. Carrey - who was also working on The Mask and Ace Ventura: Pet Detective wanted $400,000 and the studio executives were holding off. A couple of months later, Ace Ventura hit the big-screen and made $107 million on a budget of just fifteen.

Jim Carrey's third appearance on 'Saturday Night Live' at the weekend (October 25th 2014) proved to be another eye-wateringly hilarious episode - though we know we'll be stuck with an image of the actor in a nude unitard and blonde wig forever more.

Yes, Saturday's 'SNL' highlight was the Halloween themed office party sketch, which saw the 'Dumb and Dumber' star re-enact the video for Sia's Platinum hit 'Chandelier', alongside identically dressed cast member Kate Mckinnon as they attempted to battle it out for the right to wear the costume. The pair performed the energetic dance routine of 'Dance Moms' star Maddie Ziegler who starred in the video, and while it has to be said that it really is a remarkable rendition, Jim Carrey's customary absurd facial expressions made it a truly unmissable show - that and musical guest Iggy Azalea's unexpected cameo.

Dumb And Dumber To Trailer

After getting held hostage and nearly killed in 'Dumb and Dumber', the only trauma Lloyd Christmas appears to be feeling is from the rejection of a beautiful woman. Or not, as the case may be. After a 20-year long prank on Lloyd's part, he and Harry Dunne are back in action and return to their home in Rhode Island. Soon, though, Harry gets the shock of his life when he finds out that he has a 23-year-old daughter after finally opening his mail and the pair excitedly decide to track her down. However, it seems the mother gave her up for adoption a long time ago so their search becomes more difficult than they imagined. Lloyd will do anything to help Harry find her though, after falling in love once again when he claps eyes on her photo. The question is, does she really want to be found? And, if she does, how does she feel about having a father who barely knows how to take care of himself?

‘Dumb And Dumber To’ Trailer Is Seriously Low On Seabass

Jim Carrey Jeff Daniels

Ok, we all watched and, for the most part, enjoyed the Dumb & Dumber To trailer this week. It looks as though Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels are harking back to the original for plenty of nostalgic references, which is fair enough, but there was one element of the classic 1994 movie that got no mention.

Jim CarreyJim Carrey stars in Dumb & Dumber To

Tom Neely’s Seabass character was one of the highlights of the original and we were delighted when we saw the hockey star’s name on the IMDB’s credits list for the sequel. However, Neely was nowhere to be seen in the trailer – which left us wondering.

It’s been 20 years since we last saw Harry and Lloyd, but cinema’s two most loveable idiots are back this November for their long awaited sequel, Dumb and Dumber To. We’ve just had our first look at the trailer which gives us a good idea of what to expect from the boys two decades on. We wouldn't have ever thought Harry and Lloyd could teach us much, but here’s 10 things we learnt from the The Dumb and Dumber To trailer.

Dumb And Dumber To Trailer: You Might Want To Hold Off On Lunch

Jim Carrey Jeff Daniels Peter Farrelly

The absurd Dumb and Dumber To trailer hit on Tuesday evening (June 10, 2014), delighting fans of the original comedy classic with a  new level of slapstick - a new level of awful. In a good way. As the camera loops in over the metal institution in which Jim Carrey's character Lloyd Christmas is holed up - everything has that lovely 90's warmth about it.

Dumb and Dumber To Jim CarreyThe Dumb and Dumber To Trailer Hit On Tuesday

Sure, there's a degree of nostalgia here. Plenty of nostalgia in fact. Lloyd and his partner in crime Harry (Jeff Daniels) reference numerous lines from the original movie and there's a couple of gross out moments that wouldn't have been out of place in the instantly forgettable spin-off Dumb & Dumberer, however, this first trailer suggests Carrey and Daniels are onto another good thing.

Aaron Sorkin Is Sorry For 'The Newsroom'. There. He Said It. Ok?

Aaron Sorkin Jeff Daniels

Aaron Sorkin has apologized for his HBO series The Newsroom at the Tribeca Film Festival. He didn't say exactly why he was apologizing, though we imagine it was for the show's cloyingly smug, indulgent, self-serving tone.

Aaron SorkinAaron Sorkin Has Apologized for 'The Newsroom'

"I'm going to let you all stand in for everyone in the world, if you don't mind. I think you and I got off on the wrong foot with The Newsroom and I apologize and I'd like to start over," Sorkin told the audience after Jon Favreau asked about what he's learned about the media doing the series.

Dumb And Dumber To: Everything You Need To Know

Jim Carrey Jeff Daniels

It’s been twenty years since the first ‘Dumb and Dumber’ movie and later this year we’re set to join the dimwitted duo in the long-awaited sequel. With a release set for November, let’s bring you up to speed on ‘Dumb and Dumber To’.

Dumb and Dumber To
Dumb and Dumber To - here's an example of the laughs...

Twenty years is a very long time in-between movies and for a while it really seemed as though we would never see Harry and Lloyd’s on-screen reunion. The sequel was first hinted at by the Farley brothers in 2012 and things seemed to be moving forward until the project hit a speed bump in the summer. The original cast seemed to be on board and suddenly the studio, Warner Bros., didn't seem interested in reviving the characters again, causing Jim Carrey to drop out of the project.

Jim Carrey Preparing For The Bowl Cut: The Dumb And Dumber Sequel Is Actually Happening

Jim Carrey Jeff Daniels Bobby Farrelly

The news has hit that there is a Dumb and Dumber sequel in the works. Fans of the original 1994 movie should hold on to their hats because it appears that Jim Carrey will be reprising his role as Lloyd Christmas in the ridiculously bad-taste comedy about two stupid friends who bumble their way through life with great big dopey smiles on their faces.

Planned Dumb & Dumber Sequel Dropped By Warner Brothers

Jim Carrey Jeff Daniels

Warner Brothers Pictures announced this week that they have decided to drop the planned sequel to the Farrelly brothers' 1994 comedy Dumb & Dumber, putting the project in limbo for the umpteenth time since the film-making siblings started work on the project.

Having come back from the brink so many times before though, the project might still be made, although being dropped by the film company may just prove to be the final nail needed to shut the coffin on this doomed sequel for good. New Line - who are owned by Warners and released the original film - had predicted a $30 million budget was needed to film the sequel, an amount that was apparently deemed too much and spelled the latest stumbling block for the project. Although the original financier had deemed the project too risky, this might not spell the end of Dumb & Dumber 2 just yet though, as now the Farrelly's are free to shop around and see who else might be interested, if anyone in Hollywood is interested in the project that is.

However bleak it may seem, there remains hope that filming for the sequel will happen nonetheless, with original stars Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniel having already pledged their interest in the project and the Farrelly's script all but finished. There is still a big if hanging over the project, but it isn't completely doomed, and as long as the script is better than the God-awful prequel then we may very well have a Dumb & Dumber 2 at some point.

Good Genes Or Good Ops: Which Male Celebrities Don't Show Their Age?

We've all had that moment; looking at photos of our favourite celebs and then jumping out of our seats screaming, 'He's HOW old?!' Well, we've been doing a lot of that here at ContactMusic. Some stars seem to have crept up the age ladder pretty sneakily, the odd wrinkle and grey hair barely registering on our radar, while others don't seem to have aged at all! English football player David Beckham was in his twenties when he rose to global popularity and, looking at his recent H&M underwear advert, it seems that his iconic hairstyles and tattoos are our only way of working out the old from the newer pictures of him. However, he is only 37 and has plenty of time to catch up yet. It's the over-50s that have really had our mouths agape in recent times as we've been scouring the net for the most youthful looking middle to old aged stars.

Looper Review

Excellent

For a time travel thriller, this film is remarkably free of head-scratching anomalies in the plot, instead concentrating on richly developed characters and goosebump-inducing action. This is an unusually intimate action blockbuster, which gives the cast a chance to do something more resonant than we expect. And writer-director Rian Johnson takes a Christopher Nolan-style approach to the story, using intelligence and strikingly inventive filmmaking to draw us in.

Johnson is also reuniting with his Brick star Gordon-Levitt. He plays Joe, a looper in 2044 Kansas whose job is to kill men who are sent back 30 years in time by the mob, even though time travel has been outlawed. Joe knows that one day his victim will be his older self, sent back to close his loop, giving him 30 years of retirement. But when the older Joe (Willis) appears, he escapes, and now a manhunt is on. If Joe doesn't catch his older self, his boss (Daniels) will do something even more drastic than a vicious henchman (Dillahunt) has in mind. So Joe hides out in a rural farmhouse with single mother Sara (Blunt) and her young son Cid (Gagnon), with whom Joe creates an unusual bond.

The film is beautifully shot and edited, with a noir tone established by a knowing narration and the fact that most characters are addicted to a drug they take as eye-drops. And while it opens with some lively humour and witty edginess, things become darker as the story unfolds, especially when older Joe starts hunting Terminator-style for the younger version of an evil man who has too much power in the future. The hitch is that this man is a 5-year-old in the present day.
