The fate of Nickelodeon show Sam & Cat is currently hanging by a thread thanks to the kids' comedy star Jennette McCurdy, whose nearly nude pictures leaked online and soon went viral last month. Production on the highly rated TV show has now ground to a halt and the comedy has not been renewed for a second season despite the success of its first, according to NY Daily News.

Sources also say that the 21 year-old actress has also been feuding with her co-star, the pop singer Ariana Grande, after a collection of sexy selfies depicting McCurdy posing in a thong were spread online in early March. The feuding came to a head last Saturday when Jennette boycotted Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards and blamed her decision on her interaction with the children's network.

"It has to do with how Nickelodeon treated me, that's all," she tweeted to explain her absence at the ceremony where Sam & Cat picked up the Favorite Show trophy. However, McCurdy lost out in the Favorite Actress category to her co-star and former friend, Ariana, 20.

"I chose to not go because sticking up for what is right and what is fair is what my mom taught me is ALWAYS the most important thing," McCurdy tweeted. "No matter who or what you support, I believe in supporting fairness first."

It is not clear what has been said been McCurdy and the network bosses, or whether they'll be able to work through the tangles to agree to an eventual renewal of Sam & Cat. Neither is it known who decided to share the intimate snaps, although their leak coincided with McCurdy's comments in a podcast where she mocked her former beau Andre Drummond, the Detroit Pistons player.

After the photos went viral, McCurdy told her fans via Twitter that she'd taken the photos for one person and they hadn't been intended for anyone else. In response to Jennette's mortified response, Drummon claimed that he was not the one who posted the photos online.

Also, a spokesperson for the network stated that the photos were not the cause of any tension between the actress and Nickelodeon. "The photos caused no issues between McCurdy and the network, and we have the utmost respect for her," the rep said.

"We are wrapping up what was an unusually long production cycle of Sam & Cat, and everyone is understandably tired," network officials said in a separate statement.
