Jenny Lewis Acid Tongue Album

Featuring an impressive cast of guest appearances (including; Elvis Costello, M. Ward and Chris Robinson of The Black Crowes), Acid Tongue is the second solo album from Californian based singer-songwriter Jenny Lewis.

Despite the occasionally derivative pop song writing, this country folk album begins with two rather enjoyable numbers in 'Black Sand' and 'Pretty Bird', unfortunately, the songs that proceed provide very little to get excited about. Well, that is until you arrive at the undoubted highlight that is 'Acid Tongue'. This bewildering slow-burning effort sees Lewis' vocals at their very best - the male/female vocal harmonies sounding fantastic, and for once, Jenny's lyrics (referring to getting high on hallucinogens) become a little bolder.

Rather than enhance the music, the impressive list of guest contributions serve only as useful marketing strategy. Ultimately, for all of Acid Tongue's pop charm, it is equally weighed down by the lack of originality in the song writing. Mediocre.
