He may have achieved total mastery of the pop world, but Ed Sheeran demonstrated this week that his skills on the road leave quite a lot to be desired. According to BBC's Newsbeat, the star crashed ‘Top Gear’’s ‘Reasonably Priced Car’ during filming of a regular segment of the popular show, whose new episode is due to be broadcast this weekend.

The singer, whose second album X was the biggest-seller of 2014 in the UK, does not hold a driving license and had apparently never driven a car before, so it’s hardly surprising that the red Vauxhall Astra left the track and entered the grass on a number of occasions.

Jeremy Clarkson's Chequered History With Not Saying Racist Things

Jeremy Clarkson Richard Hammond

One Google search for “Jeremy Clarkson racist” will throw up 917,000 results. And there’s a reason for that. But it’s okay; he didn’t mean to say the n-word. He tried not to say it, but he just couldn’t stop it sounding like he maybe didn’t not say it. Sort of. Benedict Cumberbatch has only gone and done what millions of Britons have longed to do for years. Nope, it's not star in a Star Trek reboot. It's not play Sherlock Holmes. It is, of course, give Jeremy Clarkson a great big punch to the gut.

Ok, so he didn't quite do that, though the British actor gave the presenter a stage combat demonstration during an interview for Top Gear, which aired on BBC Two last night (July 14, 2013).

When Cumberbatch joked how he couldn't do Clarkson's job - after smashing up his Mini - the presenter responding by admitting he could never be an actor, "I've no idea how to fly a spaceship or punch anyone. Or act."

Jeremy Clarkson And Danny Baker's Great Album Showdown Turns Into Snoredown

Jeremy Clarkson

Showdown or snoozefest? It was an odd match up by BBC4 to pit Danny Baker with Jeremy Clarkson in an attempt to fight their way through some of the greatest albums ever made. Whilst Baker has the sort of indie reputation that makes him a darling for these sort of things, Top Gear presenter Clarkson isn’t really known for a sharp ear and a perceptive critique – not when it comes to music anyway. Surely there was going to be a bit of a lack of chemistry.

And so it proved. There was no showdown at all, just a rather tedious procession of Clarkson – as well as other guests, including Blur producer Stephen Street and music critic Kate Mossman – gave their opinions, unchallenged by Baker. Don’t get us wrong, Danny Baker is a most righteous fellow, but he didn’t bring that side of him to the table last night (February 5, 2013). The whole point of the program was to see which 12 albums would make it into the probably not that prestigious Showdown Dozen. Clarkson’s choice of Supetramp’s Crime Of The Century managed to cruise into the dozen, whilst Baker’s love of Frank Zappa saw two of his albums included.

All in all though? A disappointing show, with The Guardian concurring, writing “Where was the promised showdown? Having talked up the idea of the LP era as a heated debate between stoned music nerds over which was the best Led Zep track (Since I've Been Loving You, since you asked) or whether the Beatles were better than the Stones (definitely not),Danny Baker presided over one of the most polite discussions in television history.” Quite.

Jeremy Clarkson Set For Huge Windfall In Top Gear Deal

Top Gear presenters Jeremy Clarkson, James May and Richard Hammond have signed a new deal, ensuring Top Gear’s future for the next three years. The deal is likely to involve a huge windfall for Clarkson in particular, with BBC Worldwide now taking full control of his lucrative company ‘Bedder 6’

Clarkson has become the highest paid BBC star, earning over £3 million in the year to March 2012 – reports The Guardian – and his company Bedder 6 made £15.2 million in pre-tax profits in the year to March 2011. The firm generated income from Top Gear live shows, DVDs and international promotion of the brand. The business is worth anywhere between £50 million and £100 million, though the details of the BBC’s takeover are unknown. Under the new Top Gear deal, May and Hammond will get a share of the show’s commercial revenue in return for promoting the show around the world – essentially, making them even richer. In July of this year, it emerged that Clarkson’s income from Top Gear rose from £900,000 to nearly £3 million in the year.

Of the new deal, a BBC Worldwide spokesman said, “BBC Worldwide has agreed new commercial deals with Jeremy, James, Richard and Andy to secure Top Gear's international future for another three years.”
