After the low ratings suffered by the re-vamped ‘Top Gear’ over the last six weeks, that have already claimed one career casualty in the shape of Chris Evans, attention is now turning to the long-awaited rival Amazon Prime series fronted by Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May.

Following last month’s announcement that their show ‘The Grand Tour’ would be kicking off in the South African city of Johannesburg, Amazon Prime has announced that the programme would be filming in the UK at some point.

However, the only current way to get tickets for the British show is through a prize draw set up by Amazon, in which winners will get to attend the filming of the episode and meet Clarkson, Hammond and May afterwards. The deadline for applications is just before midnight on July 12th, and can be accessed here.

This is different to the ticket ballot system that was announced for the Johannesburg episode. The location and date of the filming for the UK show have not yet been confirmed, and the prize draw is the only way to attend - for now.

Clarkson also took to Twitter on Wednesday (July 6th) to confirm that an episode based in Italy would be filming the following day in the piazza Dei Signori in Vicenza.

Rather than being based in a permanent studio, each episode of ‘The Grand Tour’ will be filmed in a different location around the world, with a mobile studio set up in a giant tent. The show is due to arrive on the streaming platform this autumn.

Amazon Prime won a hugely expensive bidding war against ITV and Sky to land Clarkson’s new show nearly a year ago, when 36 episodes spread over three years were commissioned. Jeff Bezos, Amazon’s CEO, described the deal as “very, very, very expensive”, and it was later revealed that they had spent £160 million on the show, giving each episode an astronomical budget and Clarkson an income of £10 million per year.
