Rap mogul Jermaine Dupri has blasted reports he's abandoned his incarcerated protegee Da Brat, insisting he's been in contact with letters of support.
Da Brat, real name Shawntae Harris, is currently serving a three year prison sentence in Alto, Georgia following her 2008 conviction for aggravated assault. The charge stemmed from an attack on a club waitress the previous year (07).
Dupri was alleged to have cut ties with the female MC and refused to visit her at Arrendale Federal Prison, but he insists that's not the case.
Janet Jackson's ex claims he's exchanged words of advice and support through the post - but he has yet to meet Da Brat face to face because he can't handle seeing her behind bars.
He says, "I spoke to her via letters back and forth and she’s good.
"I felt a certain way about seeing Brat in jail. That’s my little sister and I don’t really want to deal with that situation like that. I would prefer dealing with getting her out and seeing that day as opposed to going to see her… The only reason I am saying this... is because I explained this to Brat. In my letter, I let her know the same thing."
But Dupri has vowed to stand by the troubled rapper and will help get her career back on track upon her release.
He adds, "When Brat comes home, I am going to be the person that takes care of her and makes sure she gets back on her feet and do what she gotta do…"
