American Made Trailer

From a very young age, all Barry Seal had wanted to do was fly and by the time he was 15 he'd already qualified for a license to fly a plane himself. As Barry grew older, he took his passion on as a profession and became a fulltime pilot flying routine trips from one city to another.

When he’s approached by the CIA to become a freelance pilot on their behalf Barry finds it hard to refuse the lure of spy life. And so began a complex life of lies whilst working for the CIA and his double life working for notorious drug lord, Pablo Escobar.

Even before Pablo reached the pinnacle of his power, he had too much money to know what to do with and he had major problems transporting drugs into his target market, Florida in the USA. Barry Seal was the answer to Pablo’s problems. He had the aircraft and he had the knowledge to manoeuvre under the radar.

SNL's Molly Shannon And Jesse Plemons Talk About Their New Dramedy Other People

Molly Shannon Jesse Plemons

It's a warm, edgy comedy drama that grapples with issues of illness, mortality and sexuality in fresh, thoughtful ways. Shannon says the material connected to her as a mother. "I really related to what a mother would do for her children," she says, "how she would go to the end of the earth for her kids and it's all she worries about. Joanne is fighting for her life, but also coming to terms with the fact that her life is going to be cut short."

Other People also stars Bradley Whitford

Opposite her, Plemons plays a young gay man who has returned home from New York after his writing career didn't quite go to plan. He liked the idea of this character. "Aside from being a gay character, it was such a specific moment in both of their lives," he says. "And there's this sort of underlying sadness, where you know it's not going to work out but you still love the person, and you're going through a lot."

Black Mass Review

Good

For a biopic of a real-life person, this feels like an oddly standard mob thriller. It's the true story of Boston gangster James "Whitey" Bulger, and it's told with gritty filmmaking and robust performances. But there's very little about the movie that sets it apart, leaving it as yet another depiction of violent criminal ambition and betrayal. And by the end, it's difficult to escape the feeling that we've seen it all before.

It opens in 1975 South Boston, where Jimmy Bulger (Johnny Depp) runs the Irish mafia, while his brother Billy (Benedict Cumberbatch) is a senator. Their childhood friend John Connolly (Joel Edgerton) is an FBI agent who has asked for their help in taking down the rival Angiulo family, which Jimmy sees as a win-win situation: he'll get rid of the competition while avoiding jail himself. Over the next 10 years, Jimmy expands his operation dramatically, and he's not afraid to get his own hands dirty as he sorts out problems that are created by his sidekicks (including Rory Cochrane, Jesse Plemons and W. Earl Brown), all of whom are increasingly annoyed at his control-freak ways. But as Jimmy becomes even more notorious, the FBI boss (Kevin Bacon) pressures John to take him down.

The actors dive into their roles. Depp transforms himself physically into a prowling thug with terrifyingly piercing eyes. He may be a heartless killer, but he's also a caring family man. Opposite him, Edgerton has a trickier role as a federal agent who operates more like the gangster he'd rather be, casually ignoring the law to push his own agenda. In the sprawling supporting cast, only a few characters emerge memorably: Cumberbatch has a sparky presence, Cochrane offers some thoughtfulness, and Bacon gets to chomp on the scenery. Other roles are much briefer, especially the sidelined female characters.

JJ Abrams, Star Trek Into Darkness Premiere
Abrams dodged the question of whether he would be directing all three films on his own.

“He is one of the actors that we’ve talked to, yeah,” Abrams said, speaking at the Television Critics Association Summer Press tour.. “But, you know. It’s not often that I read about actors that I’m going to be meeting … that I get to read articles about actors who are going to come in. And so I get to see someone and say, ‘Oh, I read that I’m going to see you.’ … It’s usually agents talking to people about what’s happening. It’s a lot of noise.”

Battleship Review

Very Good
You'd have to go back to 1998's Armageddon to find another film that so adeptly combines whopping apocalyptic action and corny save-the-planet heroics. Even if this feels like low-rent Michael Bay, it's a definitive popcorn blockbuster: a dumb movie that keeps us blissfully entertained.

Alex (Kitsch) is a smart guy who has wasted his life so, after getting in trouble while impressing a hot girl (Decker), his Naval-officer brother (Skarsgard) drafts him into service. Later on a Pacific Rim war-game exercise, Alex ends up in charge of the only ship nearby after aliens invade earth and put a force-field around Hawaii. Working with his plucky crew (including Rihanna, Asano, Tui and Plemons), Alex must figure out how to out-wit these Transformer-like killers. By the way, the hot girl turns out to be the daughter of the admiral (Neeson).
