A 24-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of arson following a number of fires in Los Angeles, including one which destroyed the former home of late rocker Jim Morrison.
Harry Burkhart was detained by police on Monday (02Jan12) and later booked for investigation of arson of an inhabited dwelling over the spate of blazes. He is being held without bail.
More than 50 fires have been started throughout the Hollywood area since Thursday (29Dec11), with flames spreading to nearby houses, including one residence on Rothdell Trail formerly occupied by the late The Doors star.
Burkhart was taken into custody by cops because he allegedly resembled a person of interest who had been captured in surveillance footage.
Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa says in a statement, "While the investigation continues, I am thankful for the ongoing and relentless effort by the Lafd (Los Angeles Fire Department), Lapd (Los Angeles Police Department) and other agencies to respond to these incidents and pursue every lead toward an arrest in the case."
