Faithfull says the pair were travelling to Paris, where upon arrival, de Breiteuil told her he had to visit Morrison’s apartment. Claiming to have had ‘a strange sense of foreboding,’ the singer says she chose to stay at their hotel room, rather than accompany him to Morrison’s home.

“I could intuitively feel trouble,” Faithfull said. “I thought, I’ll take a few Tuinal [barbituates] and I won’t be there. And he went to see Jim Morrison and killed him. I mean I’m sure it was an accident. Poor bastard. The smack was too strong? Yeah. And he died. And I didn’t know anything about this. Anyway, now everybody connected to the death of this poor guy is dead now. Except me.”

The singer’s claims come after she discussed pressure from journalists to talk about the incident. Speaking about the time one reporter asked her the question ‘why exactly did you kill Jim Morrison,’ Faithfull said: “I chose to take it very seriously, and tell him exactly what happened and why I didn’t kill Jim Morrison. But I know who did.”

Morrison was found dead in his Paris apartment on July 3, 1971, aged 27. A doctor’s report at the time stated the singer died of heart failure caused by heavy drinking. However, as no autopsy was ever performed on the singer’s body - due to the French medical examiner stating there was no evidence of foul play - the case has given rise to a number of conspiracy theories over the decades.
