J.J. Abrams Promises No Changes Due To 'Last Jedi' Backlash In 'Star Wars: Episode IX'

Jj Abrams

When 'Star Wars: The Last Jedi' hit the big screen at the back-end of 2017, the fan response was incredibly varied. Director Rian Johnson was accused by a vocal portion of the fan base of changing canon to fit his own narrative, and some story decisions that were made were met with annoyance from 'Star Wars' loyalists. Still, Lucasfilm clearly enjoyed Johnson's time working on the film, as he's now been brought in to handle an all-new trilogy when the current episodic series and slew of standalone films have come to an end.

Despite that, Johnson won't be returning to direct the upcoming 'Episode IX'. That honour will instead fall to 'The Force Awakens' director J.J. Abrams, and whilst we have no idea about the story he'll be bringing to the series to wrap up the current episodic series, it's something he has locked down if recent comments are anything to go by.

'The Cloverfield Paradox' Gets Surprise Netflix Release Following Super Bowl

Jj Abrams

Following the success of 2016's '10 Cloverfield Lane' - the second film in the 'Cloverfield' movie series - comes the third film in the franchise, 'The Cloverfield Paradox'. With a story from Oren Uziel and Doug Jung, and with Uziel writing the screenplay for the flick, fans were expecting a trailer to get their first glimpse of the movie during this year's Super Bowl game. What they got instead was a lot more.

Following the game, which saw the Philadelphia Eagles beat the New York Patriots, Netflix announced that 'The Cloverfield Paradox' was not just going to be teased, but had been officially released on their streaming service. It was a major surprise for everybody waiting for the teaser at home, reminiscent of when Beyoncé dropped her self-titled album as a surprise back in 2013.

The Disaster Artist Trailer

Tommu Wiseau is an ever secretive and Louisiana-born filmmaker who directed, wrote and starred in the 2003 romantic drama 'The Room' with Greg Sestero. It's a movie that has become a cult hit among film-lovers for all the wrong reasons, as it's considered to be one of the worst films ever made.

It follows the love triangle between banker named Johnny (Tommy's character), his lying wife Lisa ( protrayed by Juliette Danielle) and his best friend Mark (who is played by Greg Sestero). Amongst the random subplots that seemingly have no relation to the plot itself, we see Johnny struggling to quash Lisa's stories that she is the victim of domestic abuse.

James Franco stars as the filmmaker while his brother Dave Franco plays Greg Sestero in 'The Disaster Artist'; a comedic retelling of Sestero's 2013 memoir and a look at the making of this iconic flick. Amusingly Tommy Wiseau and Greg Sestero also star in this new movie - though they portray characters Henry and the casting agent respectively. Plus, Sestero previously claimed that Wiseau would only agree to this adaptation if he would be played by either James Franco or Johnny Depp.

Patrick Stewart Imogen Poots Stephen King Anton Yelchin Jj Abrams John Goodman Natalie Dormer Sarah Wayne Callies

This year is quite the year for horror. We've already seen a good handful of epic chillers and it's not stopping there. Stephen King's 'Cell' is the latest movie to be announced for release later this year, but here's a look at what we've seen so far and what's to come this summer.

Green RoomMeet the band in exhilarating horror 'Green Room'

1. Green Room - Patrick Stewart as a ruthless psychopath determined to murder a punk band may seem an unlikely concept but that's what makes this nerve shredding horror (directed by Jeremy Saulnier of 'Blue Ruin') so grippingly intense. When a band shows up at neo-Nazi bar for a show, they unwittingly find themselves witnesses to a brutal murder - and now they're next on the hitlist. Alongside Patrick Stewart, the movie also stars Joe Cole from 'Peaky Blinders', '28 Weeks Later' actress Imogen Poots and 'Star Trek Into Darkness' star Anton Yelchin.

'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' made it's premiere in Los Angeles, though the night became so busy that it had to be spread from the Dolby Theater to the TCL Chinese and El Capitan as well. The director of the previous movies George Lucas showed, to the delight of new director and major fan J.J. Abrams. Lucas previously described having to attend the premiere as being like a divorced father at his grown child's wedding, but in this case it seems stepfather Abrams couldn't have been more right for the continuation of the 'Star Wars' project.
